Lyndon and Jeanne’s love story has always been filled with love and laughter. Their trip to Maui was already a dream, but Lyndon had something even more magical planned… a storyteller cliffside proposal. As they took in the island’s breathtaking beauty, he dropped to one knee and asked Jeanne to be his forever. With happy tears, a resounding “yes,” and the ocean waves cheering them on, their love story reached a beautiful new chapter in paradise.

THE PLAN:

Lyndon reached out a few months before their trip with a plan in mind. We took his proposal package and added a few things to really up the romance. After reviewing his options and picking out a date we had the perfect cliffside proposal plan in place.

THE PROPOSAL:

For the proposal, Lyndon and Jeanne hiked up to a cliffside lookout to enjoy the views, but Lyndon had a surprise. An acoustic guitarist strummed a soft melody and sang while a graceful hula dancer told a love story through movement. With the waves crashing, the wind in the air, and the romantic music serenading them, Lyndon got down on his knee. The breathtaking view behind them, the music playing, and the sun setting made this proposal seem like it was made for a movie set.

David and Jules are from the same town, went to same high school, and have friends of friends in common but were brought together by Tinder. They clicked instantly.

David was actually in Honolulu after their first few dates, and as much as he loved Hawaii, he couldn’t wait to return home to see Jules again. Shortly after returning from Hawaii, David asked Jules to be his girlfriend and “it’s been heaven ever since.”

It only made sense to come back to Hawaii, together this time, so David could ask Jules another very important question.

THE PLAN:

David came to us saying, “We are both very good at ruining each other’s surprises so if I, with your help, can pull this off it will be amazing.” We couldn’t wait to help him orchestrate his surprise proposal!

Jules had already given David the diamond she wanted. She also made it very clear she didn’t want a ton of people around. Jules knew the question was coming. She just didn’t know when or how.

David wanted both photography and videography, so our Storyteller Package was the way to go.

David knew Jules would love a beach proposal ending at sunset. He chose a nice, long beach, just right for a romantic stroll on their anniversary.

THE PROPOSAL:

Our photographer Amber and videographer Cyrus got to the beach and found a beautiful spot for the proposal. Knowing Jules wanted more privacy, they walked a little further down the beach to get away from other people. Then they placed a marker to make it easy for David to find the spot.

David followed all of the instructions we gave him. He especially made sure Jules was facing the cameras for the proposal moment so we could capture her reaction. The plan worked perfectly!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

With our Storyteller Proposal, our photographer and videographer work together to make sure they are each getting the footage they need during the engagement session. The result is a stunning gallery of images and an engagement film so you can see it all in motion set to music.

Some couples are shy about being lovey dovey in front of the camera. PDA just isn’t their thing – and that’s okay! But David and Jules were so happy. Their gallery is filled with affection and kisses and we’re all about it!

This couple has been together since high school.  I have always had a soft spot for high school sweethearts (probably because I knew my husband was “the one” since we were in high school!)  When Richard contacted me, he knew he wanted to propose on Haleakala. He initially thought he wanted to propose in the morning, but we convinced him to go with a gorgeous Haleakala sunset proposal instead.  And boy, was it worth changing the time from sunrise to sunset!

THE PLAN:

Richard wanted a more private, intimate proposal.  Haleakala in the morning is so busy, and we can’t always trust the weather.  But Haleakala at sunset is much more predictable in terms of weather, and the views you can get from the summit at sunset are out of this world!  It’s also far less busy up there in the evenings, so the proposal can be more intimate. We really prefer to shoot a sunset proposal there over sunrise.  And you’ll see why when you look at the photos!

THE PROPOSAL:

We had some really crummy weather the week before, so we were crossing our fingers that the day of their proposal the weather would clear up.  We were so lucky it did, because the proposal was absolutely beautiful. When Richard walked Agnes to the spot he was supposed to propose, he dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him!  Way above the clouds, she said “Yes” with tears in her eyes.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

The Engagement Session was just perfect.  We worked with Caleb from Areca Film Company to create a short proposal video.  We were so happy to get a lot of variation in shots up there and an unbelievable, colorful sunset up above the clouds.

Algin reached out to me about wanting to pop the question to his sweetie Miguel.  He wanted to go over the top.  We knew that an over the top Four Seasons proposal was the perfect way to do it.  We love having proposals at Plumeria Point there.

THE PLAN:

So the big question was how we were going to get Miguel up there without tipping him off that something was going on.  We created a fake experience through the Four Seasons where both of them were going to be blindfolded and they were going to use their five senses to experience Maui.  So they put the blindfold on Miguel first, and they secretly did not put one on Algin.  The server, Mark (who is always our server for these proposals and always amazing) led them up to Plumeria Point.

THE PROPOSAL:

He then took Miguel’s hand and led him over to where the proposal was going to happen and Algin was already up on Plumeria Point waiting for him.  When Miguel took off his blindfold, his sweetie was there ready to propose!  We had an ukulele player playing their song when Algin dropped to one knee and proposed.  Of course, Miguel said, “YES!”

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Then we went to Wailea Beach just below the Four Seasons to have a small engagement session.  That beach is always a little bit busy, but luckily that evening the beach was relatively empty.  So that was a happy surprise for us.  After their engagement session, we returned to Plumeria Point where Mark and the Four Seasons’ staff had flipped the space.  They turned the proposal location to a dining location.  The men were able to enjoy the Ultimate Dinner Experience up at Plumeria Point which was a spectacular way to round off the whole proposal experience.

Algin and Miguel:  Congratulations on you over the top Four Seasons proposal!  We loved every minute of planning this wonderful surprise with you!

Nigel contacted us and he wanted to pull off the surprise of a lifetime!  His big goal was to have a surprise proposal turned wedding on Maui. As soon as I heard it, I was all in!  When I was talking with Nigel through this whole process, I kept thinking to myself, Katie must be a really special girl if Nigel feels that he can pull off this huge surprise and she is just going to go along with it.  And turns out, Katie is that special girl because she just rolled through the punches through this whole thing.  

THE PLAN:

Nigel wanted to do a sunset proposal in South Maui which is, of course, right up our alley.  We do a lot of those. Because they collect shells wherever they go, he wanted Katie to find a shell on the beach with a message from him tucked inside.  We were able to get this really beautiful conch shell where we placed a message from Nigel inside.

THE PROPOSAL:

Katie thought they were at this South Maui beach just for a romantic walk.  But as they walked along the beach, she found the huge conch shell!  She was super excited to find this awesome shell!  She was a bit confused when she found the note inside.  While she was reading the note, Nigel dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him. Of course she said YES!  But that wasn’t the big surprise of the day.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

The big surprise of the day was that all of her friends and family had flown in to surprise her at the Five Palms Restaurant after the proposal.  Of course when Katie walked into the Five Palms she was overcome with emotion as anyone would be if all their friends and family showed up halfway around the world to surprise her. But that’s not even the biggest surprise! The biggest-biggest surprise was the fact that Nigel had already set up their entire wedding three days from when they got engaged. THE WEDDING:

We worked with Maile Maui Weddings to pull off the wedding.  How everyone pulled this off so flawlessly was masterful!  Katie, now as a bride, walked out to Maluaka beach in a beautiful, one-shoulder, flowing white wedding dress. Nigel was waiting for her in a lovely tropical flower circle in the sand.  Everyone was in tears at some point in the ceremony, even the minister.  The pinks and purples in the sky at sunset helped us end our wedding session with them in true Maui style!  Our associate Amber did an amazing job capturing both the proposal and the wedding. Areca Films filmed the proposal and the wedding.

Gage and Veronica came to Maui on a cruise ship that docked in Lahaina.  Gage and I had been in contact for a couple months.  He wanted to do something a little different and really special for Veronica.  He wanted a pretty specific, styled picnic proposal in Lahaina. That was something we could get behind!

THE PLAN:

With the help of his family members, who were also on the cruise, we were able to put together this really beautiful picnic for their proposal.  Gage and I went back and forth about a couple different locations.  Because he was popping the question the day after Christmas, finding a location that didn’t have a ton of people was going to be difficult.  But we ended up deciding on a spot just outside of Lahaina town that worked out wonderfully.  We had bright blue water and a little piece of beach that they had all to themselves! We were really happy how it worked out.

THE PROPOSAL:

Gage and Veronica arrived at the beach exactly when they were supposed to.  They followed a trail of seashells that led them to where the picnic was set up.  And that’s when Gage dropped to one knee and asked Veronica to marry him!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

These two are super cute together and we had some fun signs to work with for their photo session after the proposal.  I love that they were willing to jump into the water to end their session where we got some playful shots of these two fiances!  Gage chose the Storyteller Package, so they have an awesome video of his proposal, too!

James had a masterful plan of bringing Melissa to Maui and proposing on a beach and having all of her friends surprise her at a mansion that a friend of the family-owned.  It turned out beautifully.  We did this proposal in the middle of the day. Which is something we typically don’t do because the light doesn’t tend to be as flattering as it does early in the morning or at sunset.  James wanted to be sure they left enough time to enjoy the mansion and sunset with their friends after the proposal, so we went for it.  Everything fell into place and it was a magnificent afternoon South Maui proposal.

The Plan:

James chose our Storyteller Package which was an amazing choice because we got to pair our still shots with an awesome videographer at Areca Films.  And when you have a surprise that’s this big, it’s really great to have the video component so you can hear exactly how it went down! Before the proposal, some of the friends went down to the beach in Wailea and set up a blanket and some pillows.

The Proposal:

When James and Melissa showed up to the big, open beach, they walked right up to the blanket set up for them.  When they got to the blanket, James got down on one knee and asked Melissa to marry him.  She of course said YES!  One thing we loved is that James stayed down on his knee for a long time so we were able to get a ton of great action-proposal shots of him down on his knee.

The Engagement Session:

After the proposal, we spent about thirty minutes on the beach taking engagement photos.  And Melissa thought the photo shoot was over.  But, in reality, our associate photographer, Amber, and Areca Film videographer Caleb went to the mansion ahead of her to set up.  Melissa and James showed up about ten minutes later and all the friends popped out from behind the bushes to surprise her!  There were lots of tears, lots of hugging, and lots of celebration!

Mike reached out to me with his plan to propose to his long term girlfriend Laura.  He knew he wanted to do an Air Maui Helicopter proposal.  But he was also interested in our Storyteller Collection, which we were stoked about.  Oftentimes, guys just opt for our photography package and don’t think about videography.  After this proposal was all said and done, I got a phone call from Laura telling me how much she loved the combination of the photos and the video because it told the whole story and it was invaluable to her.  So, that was really cool to hear from her after the fact.  How awesome to hear that she was just as thrilled about the experience as we were!  Here is their breathtaking Maui helicopter surprise proposal.

THE PLAN:

These two have a secret metaphor they use to talk about building trust: a jar of marbles. They talk about how trust is built up over time and it’s represented by this jar of marbles.  So, Mike had a plan to use an actual jar of marbles in his proposal. Mike is a  professional motivational speaker, and this idea was just so true to him!

To manage the jar of marbles, we had to be a extra sneaky. Right before they hopped on the Air Maui Helicopter for their West Maui/Molokai Oceanfront Landing tour, our associate photographer, Marie, hustled down to the parking lot.  She rushed to Mike’s rental car and snagged the jar of marbles Mike had left in his vehicle. Marie hid it in her backpack so Laura wouldn’t get suspicious.  Everyone boarded the private charter, and off they went!

THE PROPOSAL:

When they touched down, Marie kept the jar of marbles in the helicopter itself so that was Mike could grab it when he was ready.  When the time was right, Mike grabbed the jar out of Marie’s backpack and brought it out to the coastline where he would propose to Laura.  He led his love to the ocean-side and brought out the jar of marbles.  Within the jar he had placed a little pouch with the ring in it.  They talked by the coastline and that’s where he brought out the ring and asked her to marry him.  She, of course, said an emphatic “YES!”

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Throughout the whole engagement photo session, Laura just couldn’t contain her excitement!  We even caught her jumping for joy in a couple shots.  Also, we had Caleb from Areca Film Company there to capture all of the pieces of this proposal on video.  Since they did a private charter, which we always love with Air Maui, there was champagne and leis waiting for them afterward.

Imagine my surprise when I was contacted by Colten, who was ready to propose, and he was unsure if we could pull off his same sex picnic proposal on Maui.  Since he hadn’t seen any Maui gay proposals on our site, he wasn’t sure if we do them.  OF COURSE WE DO!  I’m thrilled to be blogging this proposal so hopefully no one else will be unsure!

THE PLAN:

Colten wanted a romantic sunset picnic for his proposal.  We set that all up for them and it looked terrific!  Earlier in the week, Colten and I secretly met up, and he gave me a pillow to put on the blanket.  He had special-ordered the pillow.  It said, “It all began with a case of beer and a bottle of Jack.”  We, of course, added a final surprise touch to the blanket to tie it all together:  some beer and a bottle of Jack Daniels.  (Which they didn’t drink on the beach because it’s illegal).  But it did add that extra personal touch.

THE PROPOSAL:

Colten asked Braydon to take a walk down to the beach so they could watch the sunset that evening.  Once the couple showed up on the South Maui beach, they quickly came upon the romantic beach blanket laid out with photos of them, pillows, roses, champagne, and more.  Braydon was so surprised when saw the picnic set up.  Colten then led Braydon out closer to the water and popped the question!  Braydon said YES!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We had a fun engagement session right there at that South Maui beach.  We got some beautiful sweetheart shots of them during sunset and some fun shots of them running through the waves.  At the end of their session, some friends they were staying with on island came out to celebrate with them.  We had a terrific session.

There were laughter, tears, rain, and magic.  Everything came together so beautifully to make this Haiku Mill surprise proposal a success!  Ryan wanted to propose to Caitlyn somewhere unique and full of life.  Haiku Mill was the perfect venue for this proposal!

I’ve got some exciting news regarding Haiku Mill.  I’m going to be partnering with the venue starting in 2017!  It offers a really beautiful, private, lush venue where guys can be assured there won’t be a ton of people watching, if any.  And, of course, the Haiku Mill itself is just magical!

THE PLAN:

The day was intermittent with clouds and rain and sunshine, so we didn’t know what we were going to get for the actual proposal.  About twenty minutes before the proposal it started dumping rain!  Even though it was going to be raining for the proposal, we weren’t too worried because the actual proposal spot was under a glass ceiling.

THE PROPOSAL:

When Ryan and Caitlyn arrived they were carrying white umbrellas.  Shelby, the event coordinator on site, led them to the spot where she told them to wait while she went to turn on the chandelier.  That was the cue for the proposal to happen.  When the chandelier popped on, Ryan put down his umbrella and proposed to Caitlyn.  About halfway through the proposal, we actually ended up losing power, so thankfully that happened after the chandelier lit up when we wanted it to!  Of course there were lots of tears afterward!  We had a beautiful bouquet of a dozen red roses along with five stems of local tuberose done by Kahului Florist that we presented to Caitlyn after the proposal.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We stayed on property for about a half hour.  Haiku Mill let us use the bridal getting-ready suite to take some shots that gave us some great vintage images.  From there we went to another location that was near Mama’s Fish House where Ryan and Caitlyn were going to be having dinner. We were able to outrun the rain and we got some beautiful colors in the sky. We even found some coral on the beach that looked like the word “LOVE” that we were able to use for our ring shot!
