Their proposal took place along a small pathway leading to a scenic overlook, where glowing “Marry Me” marquee letters and vibrant florals created a beautiful surprise waiting just ahead. It was colorful, joyful, and full of intention. The perfect propoasl for a couple whose love had been built patiently over time.

Andy and Joy are a little different from many of the couples we work with. This will be the second marriage for both of them, and their story is a reminder that love doesn’t follow a single timeline. Sometimes the most meaningful relationships arrive later in life, after experiences that shape you and teach you what truly matters.

When Andy first shared their story with us, it was clear how much respect and admiration he had for Joy. The two met nearly ten years ago at work in a setting that wasn’t exactly designed for romance. Joy was an attorney representing the department in a lawsuit, and Andy worked in law enforcement as the subject matter expert for the case. Their first interaction was professional, an interview for the case, but once the conversation started, it simply never stopped.

What began as work-related communication gradually turned into something more. They kept talking, kept connecting, and over time discovered just how naturally their lives fit together.

The Plan

Andy knew he wanted to create something special for Joy—something that felt celebratory without being over the top. He loved the idea of a scenic location that would allow the moment to unfold naturally, with a surprise waiting for her at the end.

We designed a romantic pathway leading to a stunning overlook, where the big reveal would take place. Along the ground, colorful florals were arranged to create a vibrant, welcoming space. The bright blooms added warmth and personality, reflecting the joy and energy that Andy described in their relationship.

At the center of the setup were glowing “Marry Me” marquee letters, positioned perfectly so that Joy would see them as soon as they reached the overlook. The combination of the dramatic view, the colorful flowers, and the soft glow of the letters created a setting that felt both romantic and playful.

The plan was simple: Andy would guide Joy down the pathway as if they were simply exploring the area together. When they reached the overlook and the proposal setup came into view, he would pause, share what was on his heart, and ask the question he had been waiting years to ask.

What made this proposal particularly meaningful was the history behind it.

For many years, Andy and Joy lived five hours apart. Their children were settled in their respective hometowns, so relocating right away wasn’t an option.

Instead, they made long distance work.

For years they built their relationship across those miles. Visiting each other, sharing conversations, and showing up for one another whenever life allowed. It wasn’t always easy, but it revealed something important.

Andy realized that no matter the distance, the happiest moments of his life were always the ones spent with Joy.

Two years ago, after both of their sons graduated high school, the timing finally felt right. Andy moved closer to Joy, and together they purchased a home in nearby. After years of visits and long drives, they were finally building a shared life under one roof.

The proposal on Maui wasn’t just about asking Joy to marry him…it was about celebrating everything they had already built together.

The Proposal

On the day of the proposal, the Maui landscape looked almost cinematic. The pathway leading to the overlook felt peaceful and quiet, with the vibrant flowers waiting just beyond view.

Andy led Joy along the trail, taking in the scenery as they walked. She had no idea that just a few steps ahead, a surprise was waiting that would mark the beginning of their next chapter.

As they approached the overlook, the setup slowly came into view. The colorful florals lined the ground, bright against the natural surroundings, and the glowing “Marry Me” letters stood proudly at the center of it all.

It was a moment of realization…the kind where everything suddenly clicks.

Andy took Joy’s hands and shared what had been on his heart for years. He spoke about the journey they had taken together, from that first conversation during a professional interview to the countless calls, visits, and shared moments that followed.

He reflected on the years they spent living five hours apart, finding ways to laugh and stay connected despite the distance. Those years showed him something important: their relationship wasn’t just built on love. It was built on partnership, resilience, and shared joy.

Through life’s biggest moments, even the difficult ones, they had always shown up for each other.

Somewhere along the way, as Andy described it, their relationship stopped being about “visits.” It became about a life they were building together.

With the scenic Maui overlook behind them and the colorful flowers surrounding them, Andy got down on one knee and asked Joy to marry him.

Joy’s answer was exactly what he had hoped for.

Yes.

When Raynell first reached out to us, he shared the story of how their relationship unfolded. Denise had been his coworker for several years. He had always wanted to get to know her on a more personal level but kept things professional because they worked closely together in a tight-knit group. During the holidays last year, they began spending more time together, and he realized he didn’t want to live with the regret of never asking her out. A friend asked him a simple but powerful question: would you regret not trying? His answer was yes.

That small push led to their first date…and from there, everything clicked. Raynell said he knew after just a couple of dates that she was the one. He didn’t rush it or overstate it. He simply enjoyed her company, focused on making her smile, and let their relationship grow naturally. That steady, joyful energy carried into the way he approached his proposal planning.

He already had a vision. After seeing our previous tree house proposal setups, he loved the candles lining the stairs, the sun setting in the background, and the idea of a romantic dinner for two surrounded by roses. He wanted that same magic for Denise. A private, intimate, and beautiful evening.

The Plan

From the beginning, Raynell knew he wanted the tree house. It felt adventurous yet secluded, elevated yet cozy. An experience rather than just a question. October on Maui brings warm evenings and soft golden sunsets, making it the perfect backdrop for a romantic setting tucked among the trees.

We designed the proposal around the elements he loved most: candlelight on the stairs to create anticipation with every step, a glowing sunset behind them, and a thoughtfully styled dinner setup waiting after the “yes.” Roses added a classic romantic touch without overpowering the natural beauty of the location. The overall goal was to create something stunning but not staged.

One of our favorite behind-the-scenes moments came just days before the proposal. The photographer later shared that Raynell had a small mishap with a front tooth and wasn’t sure if he would be able to get it fixed in time. Instead of panicking, he called and laughed about it. He wanted to make sure we could position him in a way that would hide it if necessary. After chatting through options, he managed to get it repaired before the big day.

But what stood out most wasn’t the tooth being fixed…it was his attitude. His carefree personality was unforgettable. Rather than stressing, he trusted that everything would work out. He was focused on Denise, not on perfection. He laughed through the minor hiccup and kept saying he was sure things would be fine. That energy set the tone for the entire experience.

Proposals are emotional. They can feel high pressure. But Raynell approached it with joy, confidence, and calm excitement. That grounded presence allowed us to focus on creating the romantic atmosphere he envisioned, knowing the heart behind it was already strong.

The Proposal

As the sun began to dip lower in the October sky, the treehouse was glowing. Candles lined the stairs, flickering gently as golden light filtered through the trees. The dinner table was set, roses placed thoughtfully throughout the space, and the view stretched beautifully behind it all.

Raynell brought Denise to the location, letting the setting unfold naturally as they approached. The combination of sunset light and soft candle glow created an atmosphere that felt both cinematic and deeply intimate.

Once they reached the bottom of the stairs, the realization began to sink in. The quiet of the space, the romantic details, the effort behind it all… it was clear this wasn’t just another evening.

Raynell shared words that reflected their journey. He spoke about the years of knowing her as a coworker, the courage it took to finally ask her out, and the certainty he felt early on that she was the one. He talked about how much he loved simply making her smile and how grateful he was that taking that chance had led them here.

Then he got down on one knee.

He asked Denise to marry him and The emotion was immediate. Denise was surprised and full of laughter as she said yes. After they celebrated for a moment, their friends came over to congratulate them and snap a few pictures. Then it was time to do a little photoshoot at sunset around the area of the treehouse.

Afterward, they lingered in the glow of the moment. The romantic dinner setup allowed them to transition seamlessly from proposal to celebration. Instead of rushing off, they were able to sit together, take it all in, and begin dreaming out loud about the future.

Raynell’s relaxed spirit never wavered. Even in such a monumental moment, he was present and steady, soaking it in rather than worrying about how it looked or whether everything was perfect. That ease made the entire proposal feel authentic and deeply reflective of who they are as a couple.

Looking back, what makes Raynell and Denise’s romantic tree house proposal so memorable isn’t just the candles, the roses, or the sunset. It’s the story behind it. Pruthvi and Tithi have been together for nearly eight years, but their story started long before that. They grew up in the same town, spent years as friends, and slowly built a connection rooted in shared values, culture, and genuine admiration for one another. From the beginning, Pruthvi knew Tithi was special. Her love for family, her ambition, her carefree spirit, and the way she brought her Indian and Hindu culture into his life in such a meaningful way.

So when it came time to propose, Pruthvi knew this moment had to reflect who she is: simple, beautiful, intentional, and full of heart. And he wanted it to be a complete surprise.

The Plan: A White Lotus–Inspired Beach Proposal in Maui

Planning a surprise proposal in Maui from New Jersey is no small task… and Pruthvi was the first to admit that planning wasn’t his strong suit. That’s where we came in.

From the very first conversation, Pruthvi shared his vision clearly. He loved the look of our White Lotus–inspired beach proposals. A soft, elegant setup with a floral entrance, candles lining the path, and a romantic focal point at the end. He wanted sunset timing for the most picturesque light, no oversized “Marry Me” sign (because Tithi prefers simple elegance), and a setting that felt private and emotional rather than flashy.

The biggest piece of the plan? The surprise.

Tithi was already on a girls trip in Maui with her sister, completely unaware that Pruthvi — along with her cousins, siblings, and his sister — were secretly flying in as well. The first time she would see Pruthvi wasn’t at the airport or hotel… it would be when he was standing in front of her on the beach, ready to ask the biggest question of his life.

Together, we chose this private venue in West Maui, a breathtaking private estate that offers a secluded beachfront feel, palm trees swaying overhead, and golden sunset views. The perfect backdrop for an intimate Maui proposal. We coordinated timelines, permits, photography, décor, and logistics, making sure everything flowed seamlessly while keeping the surprise intact.

Every floral detail and step along the path was designed to feel romantic, peaceful, and intentional… a reflection of Tithi’s personality and the life they’ve built together.

The Proposal: A Sunset Surprise, Followed by an Even Bigger One

As the sun dipped lower and the sky began to glow, Tithi arrived at the venue expecting nothing more than a beautiful evening in Maui. What she didn’t expect was to see Pruthvi standing at the end of a floral pathway, waiting for her.

The look on her face said everything.

Shock. Joy. Tears. Laughter. The kind of reaction that only comes when your heart is completely overwhelmed in the best way possible.

As she walked toward him, surrounded by flowers and the sound of the ocean behind her, Pruthvi did what he’s known all along — he chose her. He spoke from the heart, honoring their years of friendship, their shared culture, their love for family, and the future he couldn’t imagine without her. And when he dropped to one knee at sunset, with Maui glowing all around them, Tithi said yes.

Afterward, we captured a mini engagement session, allowing Pruthvi and Tithi to soak in the moment, breathe, laugh, and begin this new chapter together.

Lyndon and Jeanne’s love story has always been filled with love and laughter. Their trip to Maui was already a dream, but Lyndon had something even more magical planned… a storyteller cliffside proposal. As they took in the island’s breathtaking beauty, he dropped to one knee and asked Jeanne to be his forever. With happy tears, a resounding “yes,” and the ocean waves cheering them on, their love story reached a beautiful new chapter in paradise.

THE PLAN:

Lyndon reached out a few months before their trip with a plan in mind. We took his proposal package and added a few things to really up the romance. After reviewing his options and picking out a date we had the perfect cliffside proposal plan in place.

THE PROPOSAL:

For the proposal, Lyndon and Jeanne hiked up to a cliffside lookout to enjoy the views, but Lyndon had a surprise. An acoustic guitarist strummed a soft melody and sang while a graceful hula dancer told a love story through movement. With the waves crashing, the wind in the air, and the romantic music serenading them, Lyndon got down on his knee. The breathtaking view behind them, the music playing, and the sun setting made this proposal seem like it was made for a movie set.

THE PLAN:

Prior to our engagement session, Jack set up four clues around their hotel grounds. He also had set the golden snitch ring box in place so everything was perfectly ready when I arrived.  He figured Amanda would suspect what was awaiting her at the end. We planned that was once Amanda found the golden stitch, he’d drop to one knee and propose.  I would wait in the bushes and start photographing as soon as I saw them coming down the trail.

THE PROPOSAL:

Jack waited for Amanda at the beginning of the trail leading to the jungle. He handed Amanda a map to lead her to the tree where he had placed the golden snitch. The tree led Amanda too was marked Whomping Willow on her map. When she found the tree and the golden snitch Jack got down on one knee and asked Amanda to be his bride. Of course, she gave Jack a resounding yes!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

After accepting Jacks amazing Harry Potter scavenger hunt proposal. The couple explored the beautiful Maui jungle together taking time to soak in the joy of the occasion.  Jack wanted to enjoy every moment with Amanda so they spent time dancing under the canopy of trees. Jack even took time to push Amanda on a rope swing in the jungle before moving on to the rock beach. To end their engagement session the newly engaged couple took in the beauty of Maui while walking along the shore of the rock beach and looking out over the cliffs. This was the perfect Harry Potter scavenger hunt proposal.

Jordan and Megan had an incredible North Shore proposal. Because Jordan knew he wanted his proposal to Megan to be unique he knew he had to pop the question in Maui. Since he and his family had been visiting Maui for years, it held a special place in his heart. Megan had never been to Maui, and now she will always remember her first visit.

THE PLAN:

Jordan’s mom, June, played a big part in pulling off this North Shore Proposal. She wanted to be sure everything was extra special for the couple. The couple had dinner plans at Mama’s Fish House, but before dinner, Jordan wanted to show Megan his favorite beach.

THE PROPOSAL:

The beach was pristine that evening, and the sky was filled with kite surfers. Megan was in awe of the beauty that surrounded her. The colors in the sky and the beautiful light were genuinely amazing. So Megan took out her cell phone and began to record some video. She was so enthralled with the beauty surrounding her she almost missed Jordan getting down on one knee!!!  When Megan finally realized what was happening she was overcome with joy! After she said yes, the couple walked on the beach to take in the beauty together. Then they were off to celebrate with Jordan’s family over dinner.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

North Shore beach is quickly becoming one of our favorite engagement destinations in Maui because of all the beauty it offers. The variety of scenery is just a few of the amazing things about this unforgettable location.

THE PLAN:

Lexi went up to the lavender farm with her family under the impression that they were there to take family photos.  Little did she know that Marcos was there waiting for her with a ring in his pocket.

THE PROPOSAL:

Marcos reserved the deck for the special moment. It has a stunning view and a great place for our photographer to hide.  It was a little rainy while he was waiting for Lexi to arrive, but the sky cleared up and the weather was perfect for the proposal and engagement session!

Lexi was pretty amazed to see Marcos there at the lavender farm.  He led her over to the deck, took her hands in his, and popped the question.  Lexi teared up – it was the sweetest!  Plus, the families were able to watch from below and quickly head up after the proposal for congratulations and some photos together.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

The lavender farm is such a lovely property.  We were able to have tons of fun amongst the fields and flowers.

I can’t imagine anything more perfectly suited for this couple than this Twin Falls Maui proposal!  You’ve gotta love a couple who is up for a beautiful hike on Maui while on vacation with their family.  And you’ve gotta love that Andrew wanted family to be a part of this proposal.

THE PLAN:

Andrew contacted Engaged on Maui knowing that he wanted to propose while on a cool hike on Maui. Anything adventurous is right up our alley, so we suggested Twin Falls.  As soon as he saw the possibilities of where to propose there, he was all in!  They came on vacation here with family, and Andrew wanted to propose in front of the whole crew.  He knew Julie would love it because she’s such a family-focused person.  Because of their dinner plans for later in the day (heading to one of my all-time-favorites Mama’s Fish House), we had a mid-day proposal lined up for them.  While this isn’t a typical time of day we shoot proposals, it turned out beautifully!

THE PROPOSAL:

When Andrew, Julie, and family made it to a place on the hike that was a little less busy, he pulled her off to the side in front of a gorgeous waterfall.  Once he took her to this more secluded spot, he dropped down to one knee and asked her to marry him!  She was so surprised!  Of course, she said a great big “YES!” and the family swooped in with hugs and kisses for them both!

 THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Our associate photographer Chantelle did a beautiful job capturing images of the happy newly-engaged couple at Twin Falls for a bit.  After that, we headed to the beach at Mama’s Fish House to get some fantastic shots.  For these two, the Perfect Proposal Package was a great option because they got such terrific variation in their shots between the Maui jungle and the beautiful Maui beaches!

Is a Maui Beach Proposal Right for You?

Maui has over thirty miles of beaches. In fact, Maui boasts more miles of accessible beach land than any of the other Hawaiian Islands. Some of these beaches have even been voted among the best beaches in the world!

If you are looking for a proposal setting that represents idyllic Hawaii, a beach proposal might be right for you. However, it is important for you to know the following facts before choosing one of our Beach Proposal Packages.

There will be other people around

Hawaii does not have any private beaches, which means there will likely be people on the beach. This does not necessarily mean you will have an audience when you pop the question. But it does mean there will likely be other beachgoers enjoying the water or sitting farther away on the sand.

Don’t fret, though! We happen to know the best spots that tend to be more secluded. Plus, our photographers shoot at angles to avoid photobombers.

For the best chance at a less crowded beach, we recommend choosing a weekday or even an early morning or sunrise proposal time. Weekends and holidays are naturally going to be a little busier with kids being off from school and local families wanting to hang out too.

We can’t control the weather

Our mild tropical climate makes Maui an awesome beach destination all year long. While it does rain here, weather patterns depend greatly on where you are on the island. Maui is filled with many microclimates. Meaning, it can be pouring rain in one spot and be completely sunny a couple minutes down the road. Luckily, the majority of the beaches we use for proposals are located in very dry, sunny areas.

If you don’t want to worry about rain at the beach, your best bet will be to pick a beach on the south side of the island. This region is comprised of Kihei, Wailea, and Makena, which averages just a few inches of rain a year.

No alcohol allowed

Unfortunately, per state law, alcohol is not allowed on the beach. If you want to toast your beach engagement, it will either have to be done with sparkling cider or wait until a romantic dinner.

Easy reason to get that special someone there

We are pretty certain that it will not be hard to convince your significant other to stop and take a walk on a beautiful beach. You can even say you heard there could be turtles or dolphins! This will help build the excitement for your proposal beach of choice.

Plenty of beach choices

From lava rocks to palm trees, wide open space, cliffs and more, there are many gorgeous beaches to choose from! We are certain any of Maui’s gorgeous locations will help you achieve the picture perfect proposal you have in mind!

Is a Haleakala Proposal Right for You?

Haleakala National Park encompasses over 30,000 acres of land, ranging from the coastal area of Kipahulu filled with lush jungle and waterfalls soaring up through 6 of the world’s 14 climate zones to the summit of Maui’s dormant volcano.

The name Haleakala means “house of the sun.” Legend has it that the demigod Maui, who the island is named after, went out to capture the sun after his mother Hina complained that the days were too short for her to dry out her kapa (bark cloth). Maui went to the peak of the mountain and waited to the sun to rise from the crater. The legend begins to differ a little here, but basically Maui snared the sun with his lasso and only let it go after it agreed to travel slower for half the year. This agreement allowed Hawaii to have its seasons of winter and summer. Hawaiians enjoyed a longer growing season and Hina was able to dry out her kapa.

Haleakala Crater is a giant shield volcano that takes up three-quarters of Maui’s 727 square miles (1,170 km) and rises up to 10,023 feet (3,005 m) above sea level. The summit’s high elevation, lack of environmental pollution, and ever-changing weather patterns make it an ideal place to view the sky. In fact, astronomers come from all over the world to observe and research.

Sunrises and sunsets at Haleakala Crater can be absolutely breathtaking! The view, along with the feeling of being on top of the world, makes Haleakala an epic proposal location on Maui. However, there are a few things you should be aware of to determine if this is the best place for you and your sweetie!

There will be other people around

Haleakala is one of the most popular tourist destinations on Maui. If you are interested in proposing at the Haleakala summit at sunrise, you will have an audience. If you are open to somewhere other than the summit, there are certain spots on the crater that tend to be less busy. However, we do need to respect park rules and stay within boundaries at all times.

We do our very best to capture you at angles where other people are not in the background, but in reality, people are there. Sometimes we have to crop the photo so you won’t see everyone else around. Other times, we work photoshop magic.

Requirements for Haleakala sunrise

Due to the popularity of sunrise viewing at the summit and limited parking, Haleakala National Park reservations are required for every vehicle entering the park from 3:00 am to 7:00 am. Reservations open two months in advance and often sell out very quickly. Another batch of tickets is opened up two days before the scheduled date. Tickets are $1.50 per vehicle and must be purchased online ahead of time. They are not available up at the park entrance. If you cannot reserve a ticket and/or we cannot reserve a ticket for our photographer, we have to make plans for after sunrise.

We also have to file a permit for being able to take professional photos at Haleakala National Park. The permit process does take a while, so we need at least one month notice to make sure the permit can be filed in time.

Long drive

If you are staying in a resort area, it will likely take you at least two hours to drive from your hotel to Haleakala Summit. To ensure you get a good spot and are there on time, we will have you arrive an hour before sunrise. The good news is colors before daybreak are amazing. The bad news is you will have to be ready to leave your hotel by 2:30-3:30 in the morning, depending on the time of year and exactly where you’re driving from.

Poor cell phone service

We send you a detailed itinerary of the proposal plan. As long as you follow this plan, everything should go swimmingly. We know that stuff happens though, which can throw the plan off. Normally, you let us know and we try to make it work. However, cell phone service at Haleakala is spotty, so it might be hard to get in contact should we need to make any changes to the set plan.

Bundle up

Although we are on a tropical island, it is very cold at the summit. The temperature drops 3 degrees for every 1000 feet of elevation, so it’s about 30°F (or 17°C) colder than at sea level. Temperatures are often in the 40s F, but can dip below freezing.

We want you to be comfortable and safe, so you’ll need to wear layers, long pants, and covered shoes.

Haleakala weather is unpredictable

Weather moves really fast up at the crater and can be completely different from the rest of the island. The weather conditions frequently change throughout the day. It can be raining and covered in clouds and completely clear up to be gorgeous an hour later. If you’re doing a sunset proposal at Haleakala, watching these weather changes take place is nerve-wracking. If the weather cooperates, the colors are spectacular. Since we know Mother Nature likes to change her mind a lot at the crater, it’s a bit of a gamble.

It was cloudy during this proposal, but it cleared up right after.

In summary, if you want your proposal to be:

– in a more private atmosphere
– planned last minute
– close to your hotel or a romantic restaurant
– a time where your love will be dressed up
– in a location that will likely be sunny

Then Haleakala may not be the right Maui proposal location for you. But we have lots of other options we can discuss!
