William already knew without a doubt that she was the one. After all, she wasn’t just his high school sweetheart. She was the girl who lived just a minute away. Roshni got to share all of life’s firsts with him, the girl next door who became his whole world. He could go on forever about all the reasons he loves her, but what mattered most was finding the right way to show her.

This trip to Maui was her dream vacation. She had always talked about how much she loved Hawaii, and he wanted her to remember this trip forever — not just as a beautiful getaway, but as the beginning of a new chapter in their love story.

THE PLAN:

When we asked what he envisioned for his proposal, his answer was clear: something intimate, romantic, and unforgettable. He didn’t just want to ask a question; he wanted to create an big and romantic gesture that matched the love they had built over the past decade.

His vision was set: a beachside proposal at sunset, surrounded by flowers, roses, and candlelight. He imagined a pathway lined with blooms, leading up to giant glowing “MARRY ME” letters. He wanted balloons and florals to crowd the space with beauty, and for the backdrop to include the scenery that makes Maui so iconic — the ocean, the sky, and the feeling of paradise. More than anything, he wanted her to look back on Hawaii for the rest of their lives and think of this exact moment.

That’s where we came in. At Engaged on Maui, our team brought his vision to life with meticulous planning, design, and photography to make sure not a single detail was missed.

THE PROPOSAL:

The White Orchid Beach House in Maui was the perfect canvas for this love story. As the evening sky painted itself in shades of cool blue, she walked along a flower petal pathway that wound its way to the oceanfront. Each step was covered in flower petals and lined with white and pink florals.

At the end of the path, the grand “MARRY ME” letters stood tall against the backdrop of the Pacific. Blooms filled the space, creating a romantic, dreamlike setting that felt straight out of a movie.

There, surrounded by the sights and sounds of Maui, he dropped to one knee and asked the question he had been carrying in his heart for years. With the waves crashing gently behind them and the sunset painting the sky, she said yes.

Sumit and Jenny’s romantic proposal on Maui had hundreds of red roses and topped with a ‘Marry Me’ sign. We’re always excited to pull out these light up ‘Marry Me’ letters so when Sumit mentioned them we knew it was going to be stunning.

THE PLAN:

When Sumit reached out to us, he had a clear vision—he wanted his proposal to be romantic, unforgettable, and straight out of a dream. And let me tell you, he nailed it.

His plan? A secluded Maui beach, a rose-petal-lined walkway, and glowing “MARRY ME” letters as the perfect backdrop for one of the biggest moments of their lives. From the very start, you could feel how much thought and love he put into every detail. He wanted the setting to be just as breathtaking as the love they share. These high school sweethearts have been together for 10 years so he knew he wanted to go big!

THE PROPOSAL:

As the sun began to dip, casting that signature Maui golden glow, they arrived hand in hand. The sound of the waves, the roses lining the way, and the magic of the moment made time feel like it stood still. When Sumit dropped to one knee, emotions took over. And of course—Jenny said YES!

Lyndon and Jeanne’s love story has always been filled with love and laughter. Their trip to Maui was already a dream, but Lyndon had something even more magical planned… a storyteller cliffside proposal. As they took in the island’s breathtaking beauty, he dropped to one knee and asked Jeanne to be his forever. With happy tears, a resounding “yes,” and the ocean waves cheering them on, their love story reached a beautiful new chapter in paradise.

THE PLAN:

Lyndon reached out a few months before their trip with a plan in mind. We took his proposal package and added a few things to really up the romance. After reviewing his options and picking out a date we had the perfect cliffside proposal plan in place.

THE PROPOSAL:

For the proposal, Lyndon and Jeanne hiked up to a cliffside lookout to enjoy the views, but Lyndon had a surprise. An acoustic guitarist strummed a soft melody and sang while a graceful hula dancer told a love story through movement. With the waves crashing, the wind in the air, and the romantic music serenading them, Lyndon got down on his knee. The breathtaking view behind them, the music playing, and the sun setting made this proposal seem like it was made for a movie set.

Adam and Kendall’s summer Maui beach proposal was filled with stunning ocean views and the most beautiful sunset. Adam found us on Google when he knew that him and Kendall were coming to Maui for a summer vacation. What started as a helicopter tour proposal quickly turned into a romantic beach proposal in South Maui.

THE PLAN:

Adam wanted the proposal to happen at the beginning of their trip. He said the sooner the better! So we started planning and picked the perfect day where they had no plans set in stone. We shifted from a helicopter tour proposal to a beach proposal at sunset with a circle of stunning tropical flowers. This was the last vacation before they bought a house, so he knew he wanted to pop the question and have the ocean as their view. Easy peasy!

THE PROPOSAL:

Kendall and Adam walked along the beach while we hid in foliage (like pros do) and when they got to the circle of flowers and Adam got on one knee, Kendall was instantly laughing. The joy that this proposal brought to both of them was so sweet and tender. After Adam said his speech and put the ring on her finger, the nerves lifted and we were able to enjoy a mini photoshoot along the coast. Golden hour started shortly after the proposal so we had the prettiest lighting to work with!

Justin and Allie’s perfect oceanfront Maui picnic proposal came to life after Justin had sent us a message with all of his dreams and plans. Justin wanted to go big. He did not want to hold anything back when it came to impressing Allie. These two lovebirds met on a dating app in 2020 and the rest was history. When they booked their trip to Maui, Justin knew this was the perfect time to pop the question.

THE PLAN:

Justin came forward and wanted something extravagant to walk Allie towards, so the ‘Marry Me’ letters and a bunch of romantic florals seemed like the perfect fit. He preferred a late afternoon or evening proposal so he could give Allie the most romantic dinner afterwards. Photos and videos were super important so we made sure to capture it all happening.

THE PROPOSAL:

The day-of was magical—with the big Marry Me letters framed by lush floral arrangements set against the backdrop of the shimmering ocean.

Allie said yes, and the couple celebrated with a dreamy picnic filled with laughter, love, and picture-perfect moments. Afterward, we captured their joy with a mini engagement session on the beach, the golden hour light perfectly complementing their radiant smiles.

We recommended one of our favorite spots and Justin and Allie enjoyed a romantic dinner at sunset. Dining with an unforgettable ocean view. A perfect start to their forever story!

THE PLAN:

We had a lot of wiggle room when it came to this proposal. Bryce and Brianna had no big plans, so a romantic sunset proposal was easy. It was easy to pick from one of our favorite spots and set a meeting time just before the sun started to set.

THE PROPOSAL:

For the proposal, Bryce took Brianna to the designated beach while I hid behind some foliage. She was absolutely shocked that he got down on one knee and pulled out a wooden box with a ring. Brianna’s reaction was pure joy—a mix of surprise, happy tears, and laughter that made the moment feel even more special. After she said yes, it was time to capture their excitement in a series of candid and heartfelt photos. The Maui sunset creating the perfect romantic backdrop for their first moments as an engaged couple.

Understanding the 4Cs

When you decide to propose, one of the first things to do is buy an engagement ring. If you’re thinking about getting a ring with a white diamond, understanding the 4Cs is a great place to start.

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) established the 4Cs of diamond quality in the mid-20th century. Before this system, it was difficult to discern the distinctions of one diamond over another, especially since these differences were hard to see with the naked eye. Today, the 4Cs is the universal standard for judging the quality of a white diamond and determining its value.

What Are the 4Cs?

The 4Cs of diamond quality are carat, clarity, color, and cut. Each C has its own grading scale for evaluating quality and is completely independent of the other three Cs.

Please note that beauty is still in the eye of the beholder! There is no right or wrong set of specifications. When a diamond hits the top of every scale, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is prettier than another diamond. Rather, it’s likely to be more expensive. You can use the 4Cs as a tool to determine which factors are most important to you in order to find the best diamond within your budget.

Carat

Carat is often thought of as a diamond’s size, but it actually refers to how much a diamond weighs. One carat weighs ⅕ of a gram. Diamonds are also measured in points: 100 points equals 1 carat. This allows very precise measurements to the hundredth decimal place.

As the carat size increases, so does its rarity and, in turn, its price tag. But a diamond that has a bigger carat weight doesn’t necessarily mean it will look bigger. A diamond with a smaller carat size but a shallow cut may look larger than a diamond with a bigger carat size and a deeper cut. The appearance of size is also affected by the shape and crown you choose. For instance, a halo will make a smaller stone appear larger, and so will a shape with more surface area, like a pear or emerald.

One way to save is by looking at a diamond 10 or 15 points less than a diamond you like. For example, if you love a 1.20-carat (1 1/5 carat) diamond, see what it looks like next to a 1.10-carat (1 1/10 carat) diamond of the same quality. You probably won’t notice a big difference, but may save hundreds of dollars.

Clarity

Natural diamonds are the result of carbon exposed to tremendous heat and pressure deep in the earth. Like anything made in nature, diamonds contain flaws called inclusions or blemishes. Inclusions are trapped minerals, breaks, or growth marks confined to the inside of a diamond or that start from the inside and break through its surface. Blemishes are characteristics such as scratches located on the surface of the diamond.

Diamond cutters try to cut and polish a diamond to hide these inclusions or work around them, but they are still present and the clarity grade measures them. The scale ranges from flawless to heavily included:

FL – Flawless: No blemishes or inclusions when examined by a skilled grader using 10X magnification.

IF – Internally Flawless: No inclusions and only insignificant blemishes when examined by a skilled grader using 10X magnification.

VVS1, VVS2 – Very, Very Slightly Included: Minute inclusions that are difficult for even a skilled grader to locate under 10X magnification.

VS1, VS2 – Very Slightly Included: Minor inclusions ranging from difficult to somewhat easy for a trainer grader to see under 10X.

SI1, SI2 – Slightly Included: Noticeable inclusions which are easy or very easy to see under 10X. In some instances, even, inclusions can be spotted with the unaided eye.

I1, I2, I3 – Included: Inclusions which are obvious to a trained grader under 10X magnification, can often be seen face up with the unaided eye, and could potentially affect durability or beauty.

Imperfect: obvious inclusions when viewed under 10X magnification.

Color

Diamonds come in many different colors, however the market values white diamonds, or diamonds without any color, higher than others and the grading scale reflects that. Diamond colors fall under a D-Z scale. A D grade means the diamond is completely colorless, which is very rare and expensive. Going down from D to Z, diamonds become progressively more yellow, brown, or gray.

D, E, F – Colorless

G, H, I, J – Near Colorless

K, L, M – Faint Yellow

N, O, P, Q, R – Very Light Yellow

S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z – Light Yellow

The shape of the diamond also influences its spot on the color scale. With round, emerald, and asscher shapes, you can typically go low as a J grade without seeing any incredibly noticeable color. However, longer diamond shapes reveal color much easier. Oval, cushion, radiant, pear, princess, marquise, and heart shaped diamonds often require a grade of G or higher to not detect any color.

Diamonds are made out of 95% carbon. Color is the result of other minerals in the diamond. Nitrogen is responsible for turning a diamond more yellow. Color is a personal preference and doesn’t affect the quality of a stone. As a general rule, a colorless diamond will cost more than a colored stone. However, color diamonds have increased in value with popularity. Diamond colors that are rarely found naturally such as green or red are more costly, but diamond color treatments can help you get these coveted colors for less.

Cut

Contrary to popular belief, a diamond’s cut is not the shape, but the angles, proportions, and reflective quality of the stone. This is the only one of the 4Cs not determined by nature and is often argued to be the most important quality to consider. Diamond cutters determine how to shape, facet, and polish each stone. Sometimes, diamonds are cut to hide or minimize inclusions. Other times, diamonds are cut to be heavier so they have more carat weight. Overall, diamond cutters are focused on how to let the most light shine through each stone. If a diamond is cut properly, it will reflect the light up through the center of the stone and have an amazing sparkle.

A full cut diamond has 57 or 58 facets or cuts, which act as mirrors. If the facets are positioned properly, light enters the diamond, bounces across the various facets, and eventually leaves at the viewer’s eye. If a single facet is not positioned properly, light leaks out of the diamond, never maximizing the diamond’s full potential.

When grading the cut of a diamond, laboratories evaluate the diamond’s:

Brightness: Internal and external white light reflected from a diamond.

Fire: How the light scatters through the diamond to create a rainbow of light, like a prism.

Scintillation: The amount of sparkle a diamond produces as it moves under light.

Diamond cuts are often evaluated as ideal or near ideal, excellent, very good, good, fair, and poor.

Making the 4Cs Work for You

Now that you understand the 4Cs of diamond quality, we hope it will be easier to compare one diamond over another to eventually find the right stone for the love of your life. The 4Cs will reassure you that you’re buying a quality diamond and getting what you pay for, but remember that jewelry is a personal preference. Ultimately, the grade of each C doesn’t matter as long as you and, most importantly, your sweetie think the diamond is beautiful.

This was our first picnic proposal at the Maui Dragonfruit Farm that we have now partnered with!  We are really excited to now offer this new, private venue along side our Haiku Mill and the Four Seasons for dudes who want privacy during their proposal.  The Maui Dragonfruit Farm is located in Launiupoko in West Maui.

THE PLAN:

Shalin wanted something extra special so we gathered a few more Maui peeps to get the perfect proposal all set.  We partnered with Lucy Soulshine Creations.    She puts together these fantastic, custom-made picnics.  Shalin decided since they were going to dinner later, they wanted something lighter.  So, Lucy put together a mixture of local fruits and some sparkling water and some cheeses.  Shalin also wanted a lot of flowers, so we worked with Floralette to create a gorgeous floral arch and hanging flowers.

THE PROPOSAL:

Shalin got Shradha to the farm saying that they were going to have a tour that had a picnic as part of the tour.  Of course, unbeknownst to Shradha he was going to propose.  They sat down and enjoyed some of the yummy treats.  And when the timing was right, Shalin popped the question!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Shalin had been going back and forth with whether or not to include the TV show Friends into the proposal (because they both love the show) Lucy brought a little sign out that said “I’ll be there for you” as an added bonus.  It was a fun touch to incorporate into their photo shoot.  They enjoyed their picnic.  Did some awesome photos at the Dragonfruit farm and went down to a gorgeous beach just two minutes down the road.  They were able to catch a pretty epic sunset that night.

Is a Maui Beach Proposal Right for You?

Maui has over thirty miles of beaches. In fact, Maui boasts more miles of accessible beach land than any of the other Hawaiian Islands. Some of these beaches have even been voted among the best beaches in the world!

If you are looking for a proposal setting that represents idyllic Hawaii, a beach proposal might be right for you. However, it is important for you to know the following facts before choosing one of our Beach Proposal Packages.

There will be other people around

Hawaii does not have any private beaches, which means there will likely be people on the beach. This does not necessarily mean you will have an audience when you pop the question. But it does mean there will likely be other beachgoers enjoying the water or sitting farther away on the sand.

Don’t fret, though! We happen to know the best spots that tend to be more secluded. Plus, our photographers shoot at angles to avoid photobombers.

For the best chance at a less crowded beach, we recommend choosing a weekday or even an early morning or sunrise proposal time. Weekends and holidays are naturally going to be a little busier with kids being off from school and local families wanting to hang out too.

We can’t control the weather

Our mild tropical climate makes Maui an awesome beach destination all year long. While it does rain here, weather patterns depend greatly on where you are on the island. Maui is filled with many microclimates. Meaning, it can be pouring rain in one spot and be completely sunny a couple minutes down the road. Luckily, the majority of the beaches we use for proposals are located in very dry, sunny areas.

If you don’t want to worry about rain at the beach, your best bet will be to pick a beach on the south side of the island. This region is comprised of Kihei, Wailea, and Makena, which averages just a few inches of rain a year.

No alcohol allowed

Unfortunately, per state law, alcohol is not allowed on the beach. If you want to toast your beach engagement, it will either have to be done with sparkling cider or wait until a romantic dinner.

Easy reason to get that special someone there

We are pretty certain that it will not be hard to convince your significant other to stop and take a walk on a beautiful beach. You can even say you heard there could be turtles or dolphins! This will help build the excitement for your proposal beach of choice.

These two lovebirds met while working in Luxembourg. Francesco moved from Luxembourg to London and within six months, Michela followed him.  And the rest was all love and history.  When he was ready to propose, he contacted us at Engaged on Maui and asked for our help to get the perfect proposal for his love! We were thrilled to help him set up this South Maui surprise proposal.  Michela was over the moon with how he asked!

THE PLAN:

Francesco wanted to have a beautiful beach proposal with a great sunset.  And because he often cooked for Michela on their first dates when they were falling in love, he wanted to make sure they had a fancy dinner as part of their night.  Of course, he wanted incredible photos of their proposal.  Our associate photographer Tenessa nailed it and created beautiful images for them.

THE PROPOSAL:

When they were walking down the beach, Michela happened upon a message in a bottle sitting on a beautiful shell.  First, she was super excited to find the bottle–I mean, who wouldn’t be!  But then it got even better!  When she opened the note inside, she started realizing what was happening!  At that moment, Francesco knelt down on one knee and asked her to marry him!  There were happy tears and a great big YES from Michela,

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We started their engagement session on the same beach they got engaged on.  These two have obvious chemistry together!  What made this proposal extra unique was that after their beach engagement photo session, they had one last “location” our photographer brought them to. Our associate Tenessa walked them to Four Seasons, and took them to the final location–a gorgeous dinner set up overlooking the ocean.  Francesco had booked the Ultimate Dinner at the Four Seasons as a final surprise for Michela.  It was a great ending to a wonderful proposal.
