When Brandon first reached out to Engaged on Maui, his timeline was short. Four days, to be exact. From initial contact to proposal day, we had less than a week to bring everything together. While that doesn’t allow for every elaborate detail or over-the-top installation, it doesn’t have to. Sometimes, sweet and simple is exactly what a love story needs.

And for Brandon and Alexis, simple was perfect.

Their story started when they were just 13 years old. Alexis was Brandon’s first serious girlfriend. “As serious as you can get at 13,” he joked. But even at that age, he knew he felt something different about her. She was all he could think about. He would catch the bus across town just to see her. They spent a year together before going to different high schools, and life naturally pulled them in different directions.

In the years that followed, Brandon joined the military and left home. Thirteen years passed without seeing or speaking to Alexis. Then one night, back in their hometown, they ran into each other. The connection was immediate. What they felt at 13 hadn’t disappeared, it had simply been waiting.

Now, with a home and two children together, Brandon knew Alexis deserved a proper proposal. She wasn’t just his first love but was the love of his life and the mother of his children. And Maui felt like the right place to honor that.

The Plan

With just four days to plan, we focused on what matters most: location, timing, and intention.

Last-minute proposals require flexibility. Certain custom builds and elaborate setups need more lead time, but a thoughtfully chosen beach at sunset? That’s always within reach and always breathtaking.

We selected a quiet stretch of beach that would allow Brandon and Alexis to feel like they had the island to themselves. No distraction or pressure. Just the sound of the waves and the glow of golden hour.

The design approach was minimal and romantic. When timelines are tight, keeping things sweet and simple ensures everything comes together seamlessly. It allows the emotion to take center stage rather than the décor.

Sunset timing was key. On Maui, the light shifts quickly, moving from warm gold to soft pink in a matter of minutes. Planning around that window meant Brandon would have the most beautiful natural backdrop possible without needing much else.

The focus wasn’t on extravagance. It was on giving Alexis a moment that felt intentional and long overdue.

The Proposal

As the sun began its slow descent toward the horizon, the beach glowed in soft gold. Brandon led Alexis down toward the shoreline, the waves gently rolling in behind them. The setting felt calm and effortless, the kind of evening you don’t have to force.

Patrick and Rachel’s Maui picnic proposal was exactly that kind of moment. It wasn’t just about asking a question. It was about honoring a love story that began in childhood, wove its way through time, and found its home again years later. It was about gratitude, second chances, and the promise to show up for each other again and again.

Helping Patrick bring this vision to life was an honor from start to finish.

The Plan

When Patrick first reached out to Engaged on Maui, he wasn’t looking for something flashy…he was looking for something meaningful. He shared their story with us: how he and Rachel grew up in the same hometown, met through mutual friends, and briefly dated when they were young. Life eventually pulled them in different directions, the way it often does, but fate had something else in mind.

Years later, they ran into each other at a mutual friend’s Christmas party. One night was all it took for everything to fall into place again. As Patrick explained it, Rachel first caught his attention with her beauty, but it was her heart—her kindness, her care, the way she shows up for people—that anchored him for good.

Their relationship grew into a life filled with laughter, warmth, and a household full of furry (and feathered) family members. Three dogs and a bird keep the home lively, and their love for animals reflects the love they’ve built together.

Patrick also shared something incredibly honest: they got married 12 years ago in the simplest way possible. No grand proposal. No celebration. Just a conversation on their back porch and a courthouse visit, mainly so Rachel could get on his insurance. They planned to keep it quiet, but as he joked, “small towns don’t work that way.”

Even after all these years, Patrick carried the weight of not giving her the moments she deserved. There was no dream proposal, no perfect wedding day to look back on, no honeymoon photos to hang on the wall.

So when he told us he wanted to propose again, but this time with intention, emotion, and beauty. We knew this moment needed to feel special.

We planned a romantic beachside picnic at one of White Orchid Beach House. Soft pillows, little snacks, florals that felt both warm and elegant, and a secluded layout that allowed the two of them to simply be together. The goal: create a peaceful space where time could slow down and memory could take shape.

Patrick wanted everything to feel heartfelt, simple, and beautiful. A place worthy of the words he wanted to say to her. And most importantly, a moment that felt like theirs.

The Proposal

When the day arrived, the Maui sun dipped behind thin clouds, casting a soft golden light across the shoreline. The ocean sat calm, the breeze gentle, and the world seemed to make room for their moment.

Patrick and Rachel arrived at the picnic spot, both taking in the scene with quiet awe. Rachel thought they were simply enjoying a sunset date on their trip—nothing more. But Patrick’s heart was already racing for what came next.

As they walked over to the picnic and listened to the private musician, Patrick took a breath. This wasn’t just a proposal. It was the culmination of twelve years of wanting to give her everything she had missed the first time. Twelve years of knowing she deserved magic. William already knew without a doubt that she was the one. After all, she wasn’t just his high school sweetheart. She was the girl who lived just a minute away. Roshni got to share all of life’s firsts with him, the girl next door who became his whole world. He could go on forever about all the reasons he loves her, but what mattered most was finding the right way to show her.

This trip to Maui was her dream vacation. She had always talked about how much she loved Hawaii, and he wanted her to remember this trip forever — not just as a beautiful getaway, but as the beginning of a new chapter in their love story.

THE PLAN:

When we asked what he envisioned for his proposal, his answer was clear: something intimate, romantic, and unforgettable. He didn’t just want to ask a question; he wanted to create an big and romantic gesture that matched the love they had built over the past decade.

His vision was set: a beachside proposal at sunset, surrounded by flowers, roses, and candlelight. He imagined a pathway lined with blooms, leading up to giant glowing “MARRY ME” letters. He wanted balloons and florals to crowd the space with beauty, and for the backdrop to include the scenery that makes Maui so iconic — the ocean, the sky, and the feeling of paradise. More than anything, he wanted her to look back on Hawaii for the rest of their lives and think of this exact moment.

That’s where we came in. At Engaged on Maui, our team brought his vision to life with meticulous planning, design, and photography to make sure not a single detail was missed.

THE PROPOSAL:

The White Orchid Beach House in Maui was the perfect canvas for this love story. As the evening sky painted itself in shades of cool blue, she walked along a flower petal pathway that wound its way to the oceanfront. Each step was covered in flower petals and lined with white and pink florals.

At the end of the path, the grand “MARRY ME” letters stood tall against the backdrop of the Pacific. Blooms filled the space, creating a romantic, dreamlike setting that felt straight out of a movie.

There, surrounded by the sights and sounds of Maui, he dropped to one knee and asked the question he had been carrying in his heart for years. With the waves crashing gently behind them and the sunset painting the sky, she said yes.

Kris and Sophie’s romantic Maui beach proposal was a dream come true. Set against the backdrop of a breathtaking sunset and adorned with an abundance of vibrant red roses. As light danced on the waves, Kris knelt in the soft sand, asking Sophie to spend forever together. Kris and Sophie met in high school and have been together for 6 years. So this summer trip to Maui was the perfect time to pop the question!

THE PLAN:

Kris was super flexible in his proposal plans! He mentioned a beach proposal filled with roses. Simple and romantic, a perfect combo! So we picked the date that would work best for them while they visited Maui. After setting a date and time, I met them at one of our favorite beaches. At this point, all that was left to do was propose.

THE PROPOSAL:

Sophie was shocked as they walked in between rows of red roses and Kris got down on one knee. The evening was warm, inviting, and a perfect golden glow was wrapped around them. After the initial shock wore off, we took some photos with the red roses and let them walk along the shore for a mini engagement photoshoot. Then when the sun had set, we took out the flash and had some fun with the blue hue of the sky. But it was an absolutely perfect day for this very sweet couple. So the start of their forever begins!

Bryce and Brianna’s love story found its perfect next chapter on the golden sands of Maui. Visiting the island for a dreamy getaway, Bryce knew he wanted to make their trip unforgettable by asking Brianna to spend forever with him. With the sound of gentle waves and the warm glow of a Maui sunset setting the stage, he planned a simple yet heartfelt beach proposal that was nothing short of magical. It was a moment filled with love, anticipation, and the beauty of Hawaii, creating memories they’ll treasure forever.

THE PLAN:

We had a lot of wiggle room when it came to this proposal. Bryce and Brianna had no big plans, so a romantic sunset proposal was easy. It was easy to pick from one of our favorite spots and set a meeting time just before the sun started to set.

THE PROPOSAL:

For the proposal, Bryce took Brianna to the designated beach while I hid behind some foliage. She was absolutely shocked that he got down on one knee and pulled out a wooden box with a ring. Brianna’s reaction was pure joy—a mix of surprise, happy tears, and laughter that made the moment feel even more special. After she said yes, it was time to capture their excitement in a series of candid and heartfelt photos. This private oceanfront proposal in Maui with a champagne picnic and MARRY ME letters was a dream come true!

THE PLAN:

Adam was full of ideas for his engagement to Michelle. Since privacy was very important to him, our office manager Tiffany discussed all of the private proposal locations on Maui.

Adam also loved the idea of incorporating a picnic and impressive MARRY ME letters into his proposal. These types of props aren’t allowed on the beach in Hawaii, so we had to make sure the proposal venue was a good fit for the set up he was envisioning. Spirit of Aloha Oceanfront Botanical Gardens was perfect! We looped Maui Luxe Picnics in to help us set the scene for Adam and Michelle’s elegant proposal and the plan was coming together!

THE PROPOSAL:

Adam was able to score reservations at Mama’s Fish House, one of our favorite Maui restaurants for celebrating. However, the reservation was for late afternoon and they already had plans in the morning, so we needed to schedule the proposal for early afternoon.

Afternoon is not normally an ideal time frame for proposal photography in Maui. The brighter lighting also meant the lights on the MARRY ME marquee letters would not be visible, but looking at these photos, everything turned out beautifully! We were blessed with a gorgeous day and the full sun made all of the colors pop.

Adam really listened to all of our instructions. He led Michelle to the right place and proposed where we needed him to. He stayed down on one knee for a long time, so our photographer Chantelle was able to follow them and get close ups of Michelle’s reaction as well as wide shots showing off the gorgeous surroundings. Adam even made sure Michelle’s nails were done so we could get photos of her showing off her shiny new engagement ring.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Knowing they were going to enjoy an amazing meal after their engagement session, Adam requested the picnic just have a bottle of champagne. It was a fun way to incorporate a picnic without feeling like they were going to get too full, use up a lot of their photo time eating, or waste any food.

After their champagne toast, Michelle and Adam strolled around the property, which has a stunning mix of ocean and greenery – a tropical feel away from the hustle and bustle of resorts.

Adam chose the Simple Proposal package and those thirty minutes flew by, but they definitely left a lasting impression on all of us, especially Michelle!

We planned Ryan’s Lahaina proposal around existing dinner reservations, so Haley wouldn’t suspect a thing.

Ideally, you would come to us early, before you have any activities set in stone for your Maui vacation, so we can pick your proposal date and everything can be planned around your big moment. Popping the question on your first or second full day when you don’t have much to do (besides a nice dinner) is usually best case scenario.

Since proposals are a surprise (they often know it’s coming but not where or when), keeping your schedule open can be tough.

One thing we recommend doing is telling your sweetie you would like one or two days of the vacation to plan. Having two days of your own to plan is nice because you can use one of those days to either throw them off your scent or have some surprises to kick off the celebration of your engagement the day after the proposal.

However, if your other half is the planner in your relationship, then this request can raise too much suspicion. Or clients find Engaged on Maui when their itinerary is already full.

When your itinerary is action-packed, we have to find openings and locations that will work with your plans. The downside is that it can force us to plan proposals at times we wouldn’t normally shoot at because lighting is very hard to work with. The upside is that your proposal fits so well into your itinerary, they won’t see it coming.

THE PLAN:

Ryan came to us wanting to propose to Haley on a very special date – their 10th anniversary! They had dinner reservations at Fleetwood’s on Front St. for the occasion. They were already planning on checking out Lahaina town before dinner so figuring out a beach in Lahaina was the way to go.

Ryan wanted to keep his Lahaina proposal simple. They had a lot of activities planned and he preferred to pop the question on one of their chill days.

We know the instinct can be to go big and over-the-top, especially when you see proposals like that on social media, but honestly so many of our favorite proposals are simple and heartfelt. The emphasis is kept on the couple, their love, and the commitment they are making to each other.

THE PROPOSAL:

On that day, our photographer Tim discreetly waited for Ryan and Haley at the start of the beach. It was a little bit of a walk to the proposal spot, so Tim secretly followed them to make sure he could capture Ryan getting down on one knee.

Haley must have had a suspicion, or at least a hope, that Ryan would propose on their anniversary, but her reaction was still surprised and then overjoyed.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

For beach sessions, we normally plan timing at sunrise, early morning, or ending at sunset for the most flattering lighting.

Ryan and Haley’s dinner reservation was before sunset and we had to give them enough time to get from the beach to the restaurant. We knew with the timing, their lighting wouldn’t be as soft as we like and they would miss any sunset colors, but Tim made it work. Ideal lighting or not, their love shines! Ryan and Haley have been together through high school, college, and beyond, so it was an incredible honor to be part of this huge steps in their lives!

Sashi and Brittney met in college and have been together for 10 years. Sashi describes Brittney as “pretty amazing and most definitely my better half.” Brittney is a bookworm, loves the beach, water, and sunsets. For his proposal, Sashi wanted to combine everything Brittney loves. He came up with the idea for this beach library proposal! This was such a unique idea and so true to Brittney’s personality. We were so excited to be part of making this happen!

THE PLAN:

It’s always interesting to hear our client’s ideas and figure out how we can bring their ideas to life. After talking to Sashi on the phone, we figured out that it would be cool to set up a small bookshelf with assorted books on it. Sashi would create a plan so that he and Brittney would already be spending the special day in the area. Then it would be natural for him to suggest they head to the beach right before sunset.

The cover story was that this eclectic character who had a passion for reading sets up this little shelf of books on the beach for people to enjoy every week. We decided it would be best to actually have a fake librarian there to add authenticity of the story and invite Brittney to take a look if she seemed hesitant. We created some details that our fake librarian could talk about just in case Brittney asked.

Because we were setting up a bigger prop on the beach, it was super important to pick the right location and time. We didn’t want tons of other curious beachgoers to check out the beach library. In order to give the proposal the greatest chance of privacy, we did not want to set up on any beaches nearby the hotels or do the proposal on a weekend. We suggested a spot that would most likely be more secluded and make sense for our cover story. Sashi was very go-with-the-flow and happy to hand over the reins to let us take over the planning. Thinking about these details and setting you up for success is a big part of what we do!

THE PROPOSAL:

Sashi and Brittney showed up right on time. Just as we hoped, the beach was quiet and the lighting was beautiful! Brittney was pretty psyched to see this cute little beach library set up. Angie, the owner of Engaged on Maui, acted as our fake librarian while our associate photographer Amber waited on the sidelines, capturing everything.

The original plan was for Sashi to send us a special book to place on the shelf, which he would find and present to Brittney right before he proposed. But by the time the book was finished, it would have been cutting it close to guarantee that it would be shipped to us in time. Instead, Sashi kept the book and took it out from his bag.

We love the shot where you can see Sashi holding the book behind his back and the moment that Brittney opens it and has the first hint of what’s coming.

Sashi led Brittney a tad closer to the ocean and then got down on one knee. Angie stepped away to give them more privacy. While we couldn’t hear exactly what was said, it was clear that Brittney was overjoyed!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

After some hugs, kisses, and admiring her new engagement ring, Sashi pointed out the photographer and Brittney realized it was all a set up! Brittney was definitely shocked and surprised. Seeing that moment of realization is sometimes almost as good as the proposal itself.

Brittney and Sashi are really natural and comfortable together. They had so much fun just walking, playing, and loving it up on the beach. We had a blast witnessing their newly-engaged joy as the sun went down.

Picking the right proposal location was key for Shing. We went over several options before he decided on The Treehouse at Hotel Wailea. He loved the beauty and privacy of the Treehouse and the lush grounds of Hotel Wailea. Most importantly, he knew this private treehouse proposal is just what his sweetie Tina would want!

THE PLAN:

Shing and Tina were staying at a different hotel, so they came to Hotel Wailea under the cover story that they would be having dinner at the restaurant. This plan was perfect because Shing knew Tina would want to have her hair and makeup just right for the proposal and photo session.

THE PROPOSAL:

Shing convinced Tina to walk around before their fake dinner reservations. He knew where the Treehouse was and started walking in that direction. We had a violinist waiting for them on the Treehouse steps. She began playing, so they would be intrigued to keep walking towards the Treehouse. Once the violinist saw Shing and Tina, she performed Canon in D.

Our photographer Angie sneakily followed Shing and Tina from behind. With the romantic music playing in the background, Shing got down on one knee and asked Tina to spend forever with him. Tina was ecstatic! Their reactions reminded us how much we love what we do!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Hotel Wailea is stunning! There is plenty of greenery and space to play. We had a short engagement session before leaving Shing and Tina to enjoy their private dinner in The Treehouse during sunset. Before we left, Shing got down on his knee one more time so they could relive the moment again!

Southside Beach Proposal with Awesome Family Surprise

Both sides of the family were involved in this heartfelt proposal! Giles’ mom helped with the planning and cover story. Not wanting to be left out, Kesslee’s mom and grandma came to surprise Kesslee after the proposal.

THE PLAN:

Since Giles and Kesslee were coming on vacation with Giles’ family, the cover story to get everyone to the beach dressed up on time was a family photoshoot.

Giles’ mom Natalie was our point of contact. When Natalie and family got to the beach, we called and told Natalie that their photographer was running late, so everyone could relax until she got there. This was Giles’ cue to walk Kesslee down the beach.

Meanwhile, our associate Amber already had the flower circle set up and was waiting on the beach. The flower circle was requested to make the plan as easy as possible for Giles. All he had to was look for the circle and make sure he faced Kesslee the right way.

Kesslee’s mom and grandma met us at the beach before everyone else arrived and we hid them away. Kesslee had no clue they would be there at all. Since her family being there would be a major shock, we thought it best to have them hiding during the proposal, in a spot where they could still watch the magic, but not distract from the big moment. Then we gave Kesslee a chance to take in the fact that she just got engaged before surprising her again!

THE PROPOSAL:

The plan went off wonderfully! Giles led Kesslee into the flower circle as both families looked on – his family down the beach and her family hiding in the trees. Kesslee was so thrilled! Little did she know, the proposal wasn’t the only surprise.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Giles’ family came over to congratulate the happy couple and take some group photos. Then we stole Giles and Kesslee away. Amber told them to look towards the ocean. With their backs to the trees, it was the perfect opportunity for Kesslee’s mom and grandma to come out of hiding. Kesslee’s face went from disbelief to joy and happy tears! Seeing her family there too and realizing they had traveled so far to witness her engagement was icing on the cake!

Kesslee and Giles exchanged leis and danced together on the beach before joining back up with their families for a few more photos at sunset. Everyone made memories that evening to last a lifetime and they have the photos to keep those memories alive!

Congratulations Giles and Kesslee! Thank you for letting us capture your memorable Maui family proposal! We loved seeing your families come together and we wish you the most beautiful life together!
