]]> Sunset Beach Proposal in Wailea

I love hearing about a couple’s beginning.  It’s always fun to learn how a couple falls in love and how they get to a sunset beach proposal in Wailea.  Harrison and Daniela met over a chocolate chip cookie.  These two were both working in a retirement home: him as a chef and her as a server.  They were attending a meeting, and Harrison noticed this lovely girl taking a bite of a chocolate chip cookie, and that was the moment he was “determined to be with her.”  Darling, right?  I hope they serve cookies at their wedding!

THE PLAN:

Harrison wanted to propose right at sundown.  When we were in the planning stages he told me he wanted to make it a little more personal. He asked if we could do a message in a bottle and add a photo of them next to it.  Of course we could do that!  So, the beach was set up with a framed photo of the couple next to the message in a bottle laying in the sand.

THE PROPOSAL:

Our associate Marie spotted them coming down the beach and started snapping away from her hiding spot in the bushes. Harrison timed the proposal perfectly which is absolutely crucial for sunset proposals. When they got to the bottle, Daniela knelt down to check it out, and Harrison dropped to one knee as she stood up.  He asked her to marry him and she said YES!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

He proposed about five minutes before sundown and we were able to shoot for about twenty minutes after sunset.  They had the beach totally to themselves; it was awesome! The sunset was absolutely spectacular for their simple sunset engagement shoot.

]]> Dean’s Letter South Maui Proposal

This couple came to Maui in May right after Maya got out of college for the semester.  She had just been accepted to med school.  With that in mind, Reggie came up with a great idea to surprise her with a Dean’s Letter South Maui Proposal, and we helped him pull it off just right!

THE PLAN:

Reggie wanted to pop the question, and he wanted to make it extra special by including her recent acceptance into the University of Illinois College of Medicine.  So, he made up a mock letter from the Dean of the school.  Before they came to Maui, he sent the letter over to us, and we placed it in a bottle on the beach.

THE PROPOSAL:

Ready and waiting, our associate photographer Marie spotted the couple strolling down the beach and started snapping shots.  Reggie led Maya right to the letter in the bottle, and she opened it up. The letter is super sweet, and the last sentence says, “The guy next to you wants to ask you a very important question.”  And that’s when Maya turned around and Reggie was down on one knee.  She was so surprised!  Of course she said YES!  This couple’s chemistry is just palpable.  Anyone with them for even a moment wants to be best friends with them.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We had a beautiful day in South Maui and we had an epic sunset.  We found a couple of fun locations on this beach to get some shots.  First, they hopped up on a sailboat in the sand–Maya had a killer model pose up there.  Then we found some gorgeous natural features for them to snuggle on: some lava rocks and a driftwood log.  So glad these two came all the way from Illinois to get engaged!

]]> South Maui Message in a Bottle Proposal

We’ve had a rush lately of really cool couples with really cool jobs.  For example, Katie, our bride-to-be is a professional singer who travels the world.  She recently did a gig in Japan.  See what I mean about having exciting couples lately?  Devin wanted to do something special for his awesome lady.  We came up with the South Maui message in a bottle proposal idea for him. And the proposal went perfectly!

THE PLAN:

When Devin and I started talking, he quickly decided to do a message in a bottle proposal. He wrote a poem for Katie that he sent us in the mail ahead of time so we could get the bottle all ready.  I loved Devin from the get-go because he was really prompt!  He got there right when we were supposed to meet, which was great!  I was, of course, hiding back in the bushes waiting for them to arrive.

THE PROPOSAL:

This was one of the most emotion filled proposals we’ve had to date!  He cried, she cried, I teared up!  One thing I loved about this proposal was that Devin stayed down on his knee for at least a minute.  Because of that, I could get a bunch of action shots of the actual proposal!  Afterwards, there were still a few tears, but mostly they were just really stoked to be engaged!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

After the proposal, we went to a few other places on South Maui where we were able to get some photos in front of some beautiful, colorful greenery.  At the next spot, we got some shots with some incredible black lava rock.  Lava rock contrasting with greenery is always such a great choice!  We ended the session at one of my favorite beaches. It’s a little bit north of the proposal beach.  We got some great reflections in the water there.  At the end of Devin and Katie’s engagement session, we were able to write in the sand, which is always a fun way to end a session!
