These two lovebirds met while working in Luxembourg. Francesco moved from Luxembourg to London and within six months, Michela followed him.  And the rest was all love and history.  When he was ready to propose, he contacted us at Engaged on Maui and asked for our help to get the perfect proposal for his love! We were thrilled to help him set up this South Maui surprise proposal.  Michela was over the moon with how he asked!

THE PLAN:

Francesco wanted to have a beautiful beach proposal with a great sunset.  And because he often cooked for Michela on their first dates when they were falling in love, he wanted to make sure they had a fancy dinner as part of their night.  Of course, he wanted incredible photos of their proposal.  Our associate photographer Tenessa nailed it and created beautiful images for them.

THE PROPOSAL:

When they were walking down the beach, Michela happened upon a message in a bottle sitting on a beautiful shell.  First, she was super excited to find the bottle–I mean, who wouldn’t be!  But then it got even better!  When she opened the note inside, she started realizing what was happening!  At that moment, Francesco knelt down on one knee and asked her to marry him!  There were happy tears and a great big YES from Michela,

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We started their engagement session on the same beach they got engaged on.  These two have obvious chemistry together!  What made this proposal extra unique was that after their beach engagement photo session, they had one last “location” our photographer brought them to. Our associate Tenessa walked them to Four Seasons, and took them to the final location–a gorgeous dinner set up overlooking the ocean.  Francesco had booked the Ultimate Dinner at the Four Seasons as a final surprise for Michela.  It was a great ending to a wonderful proposal.

On the even of Edward’s proposal we hit a small snag in the plan: Lara had settled in to her hotel room and really didn’t want to go out for a drive! Luckily, Edward tempted her with some wine and got her to take the hour drive south to Paako Cove (also known as Secret Cove and Makena Cove) so he could pop the question!

The Plan:

Edward knew he wanted a picture perfect location for his proposal. And Makena Cove was just the place for that!

The Proposal:

Because of the small snafu in our plan, Edward didn’t get out to the beach until the sun was just below the horizon. We had a few short minutes to capture the proposal before the sun set! When Lara turned to look at the ocean, Edward got behind her and when she turned around, he was down on one knee. Lara actually danced when he asked her! She was SO excited! Behind the camera, even I couldn’t stop smiling.

The Engagement Session:

We stayed at Makena Cove for our session as the sun was quickly setting! What made this proposal even more special was that BOTH of Lara and Edward’s mothers were there to watch it all happen! Even though we lost light quickly after the proposal, I think it went down splendidly.

It may have taken six years, but it was totally worth it. At least, that’s Mackenzie’s take on it :). Josh proposed to Mackenzie in this romantic Makena Cove Proposal in Maui, Hawaii. He even included a slideshow with friends and family to preface his proposal!!

The Plan:

Josh really wanted the absolute perfect location for his Maui beach proposal. After poking around Engaged on Maui, he found that Makena Cove, AKA Secret Cove, would be the perfect spot!

The Proposal:

The day really was perfect. I knew we were going to get a stellar sunset and I was right! Josh cleared a spot for him to set up his laptop and had Mackenzie sit beside him. That’s when the tears really started flowing!

After the slideshow, he asked her to stand…and he got down on one knee and proposed!

One of my favorite photo series from this session was when she realized I was photographing the whole thing! She was blown away! Good job Josh!

The Engagement Session:

We stayed at Makena cove for our session, as the light was beautiful there and we had it mostly to ourselves! And boy that sunset did NOT disappoint!

When you combine a sharply dressed man, an elegantly dressed woman, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and the song “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran, you have all the ingredients you need to formulate the perfect proposal.

Jim was so conscientious in planning this too, I might add. He wanted to make sure she looked great so he invested time into buying her a dress, making special dinner reservations, and double checking everything to make sure it was perfect. And believe me when I say it was.

The Plan:

We had the spot picked out–a relatively secluded piece of beach in Makena. But because of the South swell that was in the week before, I was unsure whether or not that stretch of sand would be accessible! When it came down to it, I had to text Jim about 15 minutes before his arrival to tell him that I would either be waiting for him in the spot to the left OR he would have to find his own spot and I would follow!

Luckily, the spot I had hoped for was open. So I used my awesome fake couple (though they are engaged in real life) Tim and Amanda to pretend to pose for me. This worked well because Jim wanted to dance with Lauren to Ed Shereen’s “Thinking Out Loud” before he popped the question. This way, I wouldn’t have to hid in bushes or behind lava rocks, which is my typical MO.

The Proposal:

I kept my back to Jim and Lauren when they entered the beach and Tim and Amanda signaled to me that they were approaching. At that point, we moved down toward the water so Jim and Lauren could take our spot and begin their dance. I happily pretended to take photos of Amanda and Tim while keeping a Lauren and Jim in my line of sight (see below)!

Once the dance started, it was only a matter of time before Jim dropped to one knee. It was great being that close to them because all of the photos of Jim proposing are unobstructed. My absolute favorite shot is when she first sees the ring–I think her eyes were coming out of her head! She, of course, said yes!

The Engagement Session:

For the engagement session, we headed down toward La Perouse to spend some time out on the lava rocks, but for sunset, I wanted to take them to the most beautiful beach I knew of: Secret Cove. And I can’t believe no one was there. It was completely empty. How we got so lucky, I’ll never know. But I’m so glad we got to close out our session at the most romantic beach in Maui.

Jim and Lauren: A HUGE congratulations. Your proposal was so sweet and heartfelt and the love you share for one another was absolutely evident. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of such a special day!

Doug contacted me in early May with a plan to propose to his long time girlfriend Sarah while visiting Maui for the first time. He even had the perfect spot picked out. This Secret Cove Proposal in Maui, Hawaii was so sweet and heart-felt; from Doug’s persistence of finding the perfect location to his message in a bottle, he left no detail out!

The Plan:

It was Memorial Day Weekend, so beaches were sure to be busy, which makes it difficult to do a private proposal. But we had a plan A and plan B in place. But there was one problem: a HUGE south swell came in a day before the proposal was going to happen! That means that our plan A spot, Secret Cove in Makena, was experiencing huge waves, which would make it hard to do the message in a bottle that he had planned.

The Proposal:

The plan was for him to gently lead Sarah to the area that the bottle was in and let her find it. But that swell was enormous. Unable to get to the bottle when he wanted to, Doug decided to throw caution to the wind and just do what he came here to do: propose!

He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him–she said YES!

After the proposal, Doug was able to make his way over to the rocks and grab the message in the bottle. She read his note (which was incredibly sweet and romantic), cried a few happy tears, and hugged him

The Engagement Session:

We spent the rest of our time together getting some photos in Secret Cove. Though the surf was high, the beach was mostly empty because people were staying away because of the swell! Typically there are several weddings happening at Secret Cove; I was happy for the swell, to be honest!

We then made our way over to the beach next door for some more candid and fun shots. I swear to you, these two are torn straight from the pages of GQ magazine. They were incredibly easy to pose and work with–and, of course, being newly engaged just makes you want to hold on to your honey even tighter!

Doug and Sarah: what an honor it was to photograph your Secret Cove proposal in Maui! Thank you for letting me capture such a special moment in your lives! Enjoy that newly engaged feeling and I do hope our paths cross again!
