Dancing on the Beach Proposal in Wailea, Maui
When you combine a sharply dressed man, an elegantly dressed woman, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and the song “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran, you have all the ingredients you need to formulate the perfect proposal.
Jim was so conscientious in planning this too, I might add. He wanted to make sure she looked great so he invested time into buying her a dress, making special dinner reservations, and double checking everything to make sure it was perfect. And believe me when I say it was.
The Plan:
We had the spot picked out–a relatively secluded piece of beach in Makena. But because of the South swell that was in the week before, I was unsure whether or not that stretch of sand would be accessible! When it came down to it, I had to text Jim about 15 minutes before his arrival to tell him that I would either be waiting for him in the spot to the left OR he would have to find his own spot and I would follow!
Luckily, the spot I had hoped for was open. So I used my awesome fake couple (though they are engaged in real life) Tim and Amanda to pretend to pose for me. This worked well because Jim wanted to dance with Lauren to Ed Shereen’s “Thinking Out Loud” before he popped the question. This way, I wouldn’t have to hid in bushes or behind lava rocks, which is my typical MO.
The Proposal:
I kept my back to Jim and Lauren when they entered the beach and Tim and Amanda signaled to me that they were approaching. At that point, we moved down toward the water so Jim and Lauren could take our spot and begin their dance. I happily pretended to take photos of Amanda and Tim while keeping a Lauren and Jim in my line of sight (see below)!
Once the dance started, it was only a matter of time before Jim dropped to one knee. It was great being that close to them because all of the photos of Jim proposing are unobstructed. My absolute favorite shot is when she first sees the ring–I think her eyes were coming out of her head! She, of course, said yes!
The Engagement Session:
For the engagement session, we headed down toward La Perouse to spend some time out on the lava rocks, but for sunset, I wanted to take them to the most beautiful beach I knew of: Secret Cove. And I can’t believe no one was there. It was completely empty. How we got so lucky, I’ll never know. But I’m so glad we got to close out our session at the most romantic beach in Maui.
Jim and Lauren: A HUGE congratulations. Your proposal was so sweet and heartfelt and the love you share for one another was absolutely evident. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of such a special day!
