Sunrise Proposal on Maui’s Dormant Volcano
I swear to you that Haleakala is one of the most romantic places on Earth. It’s already been proven to be the quietest place on Earth; and somewhere between being above the clouds, hearing your own heartbeat, and the chill of the wind blowing past your cheeks, there’s space to think about what really matters in life.
For Jason and Darci, first morning light meant the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
The Plan:
While Darci slept in the car, Jason met me up in the observatory at the 10,023 ft mark on top of Haleakala. We chatted about where to go and at 5:15 AM, 30 minutes before sun-up, I would follow him to that spot and wait for the sun to come up.
The Proposal:
Jason only waited a few minutes after the sun was up to ask Darci what had planned to ask. She was all bundled up (it was REALLY cold up there that morning–40 degrees with blowing wind!) but her smile really said it all! He dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him. She said YES!
The Engagement Session:
Haleakala is unlike other locations around Maui. The colors up there are so vivid and ever-changing. I could shoot up there every day and find a new hidden gem. We got shots of the crater as well as some of the greenery along the side of the road. We had to weave in and out of the clouds that morning, but it was still incredibly gorgeous. I even think the clouds made it a bit more mysterious and romantic!
Darci and Jason: thank you so much much for allowing me to capture your amazing sunrise proposal on Maui’s dormant volcano! I’m so glad that Haleakala cooperated that morning and despite the cold temperatures we were able to get some really great shots!
Once again, congratulations!!
