Secret Cove Proposal in Maui, Hawaii
Doug contacted me in early May with a plan to propose to his long time girlfriend Sarah while visiting Maui for the first time. He even had the perfect spot picked out. This Secret Cove Proposal in Maui, Hawaii was so sweet and heart-felt; from Doug’s persistence of finding the perfect location to his message in a bottle, he left no detail out!
The Plan:
It was Memorial Day Weekend, so beaches were sure to be busy, which makes it difficult to do a private proposal. But we had a plan A and plan B in place. But there was one problem: a HUGE south swell came in a day before the proposal was going to happen! That means that our plan A spot, Secret Cove in Makena, was experiencing huge waves, which would make it hard to do the message in a bottle that he had planned.
The Proposal:
The plan was for him to gently lead Sarah to the area that the bottle was in and let her find it. But that swell was enormous. Unable to get to the bottle when he wanted to, Doug decided to throw caution to the wind and just do what he came here to do: propose!
He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him–she said YES!
After the proposal, Doug was able to make his way over to the rocks and grab the message in the bottle. She read his note (which was incredibly sweet and romantic), cried a few happy tears, and hugged him 🙂
The Engagement Session:
We spent the rest of our time together getting some photos in Secret Cove. Though the surf was high, the beach was mostly empty because people were staying away because of the swell! Typically there are several weddings happening at Secret Cove; I was happy for the swell, to be honest!
We then made our way over to the beach next door for some more candid and fun shots. I swear to you, these two are torn straight from the pages of GQ magazine. They were incredibly easy to pose and work with–and, of course, being newly engaged just makes you want to hold on to your honey even tighter!
