I can’t imagine anything more perfectly suited for this couple than this Twin Falls Maui proposal!  You’ve gotta love a couple who is up for a beautiful hike on Maui while on vacation with their family.  And you’ve gotta love that Andrew wanted family to be a part of this proposal.

THE PLAN:

Andrew contacted Engaged on Maui knowing that he wanted to propose while on a cool hike on Maui. Anything adventurous is right up our alley, so we suggested Twin Falls.  As soon as he saw the possibilities of where to propose there, he was all in!  They came on vacation here with family, and Andrew wanted to propose in front of the whole crew.  He knew Julie would love it because she’s such a family-focused person.  Because of their dinner plans for later in the day (heading to one of my all-time-favorites Mama’s Fish House), we had a mid-day proposal lined up for them.  While this isn’t a typical time of day we shoot proposals, it turned out beautifully!

THE PROPOSAL:

When Andrew, Julie, and family made it to a place on the hike that was a little less busy, he pulled her off to the side in front of a gorgeous waterfall.  Once he took her to this more secluded spot, he dropped down to one knee and asked her to marry him!  She was so surprised!  Of course, she said a great big “YES!” and the family swooped in with hugs and kisses for them both!

 THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Our associate photographer Chantelle did a beautiful job capturing images of the happy newly-engaged couple at Twin Falls for a bit.  After that, we headed to the beach at Mama’s Fish House to get some fantastic shots.  For these two, the Perfect Proposal Package was a great option because they got such terrific variation in their shots between the Maui jungle and the beautiful Maui beaches!

In the days leading up to Anthony’s proposal to Maricela, we became increasingly worried about the weather. It had been raining for days but we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. Turns out, this surprise waterfall proposal in Maui went off without a hitch.

THE PLAN:

We went back and forth in the days leading up to the proposal. The Thursday before I had to reschedule two shoots because of the rain – and then later that week I had to reschedule two more shoots! It was just so incredibly rainy (which is unusual) in the weeks prior that even getting the proposal footage for Anthony was difficult. Waterfall proposals aren’t for the faint of heart. If we have massive amounts of rain that may make it impossible to even access waterfalls! It takes a bit of throwing caution to the wind and some super faith that everything will be OK!

The plan was to plant the book by the waterfall so Maricela would see it before the proposal. When she saw it, Anthony would get down on one knee and ask her to marry him.

THE PROPOSAL:

We had originally said 8 AM for a start time, but I wanted to give it some time to get more light before Anthony got there. So we pushed it to 9 AM. But as I thought about it more, I figured that less people and less light was better than more people and less light! I texted him right away and he arrived around 8:30, which was perfect.

He led Maricela over to the book, got down on one knee, and asked for her hand in marriage! She was so surprised and, of course, said yes!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

For our engagement session, we stayed in the area of Twin Falls. We were able to grab some cool shots over by the bus and the surrounding area. Because Anthony and Maricela had reservations at Mama’s Fish House (one of my favorites), we headed back that way to get some photos on their small beach before the crowds arrived!

When Rochard contacted me a few months back and wanted to take propose to his sweetie under a secret waterfall in Maui, I couldn’t have been more excited. I love adventurous couples and going to new places to help couples start a new chapter in their lives. A story that began in the city was about to start a new chapter on a desolate beach on the beautiful island of Maui. This secret waterfall proposal in Maui has me aching to do another!

THE PLAN:

We had a plan B set in place in case of rain, but we were both crossing our fingers it wouldn’t come to that. The days leading up to the proposal were a touch rainy but I kept the faith and we just waited it out. The day-of was perfect. Blue skies, fluffy white clouds – we seriously couldn’t have asked for a better day!

This is what Rochard had to say about Han:

“We met when we both worked for Nike in Dallas (where we live). She use to make me carry all her have boxes. I asked for her number before leaving out of town. Me being a man, I didn’t call right away. She immediately got on my case and we have been together ever since. I knew I loved her because she makes me want to be a better man, a better dad, and take more chances in my life. I have a son from a pervious relationship and she loves him like her own. She challenges me everyday and I honestly don’t want to be without her.”

THE PROPOSAL:

I sneakily followed Han and Rochard through the jungle to the waterfall. The water level was up so we ended up having to ford the river! I’d be lying if I said I only fell once…I have the cuts to prove it! But it was worth it. When we reached the waterfall I got into place and Rochard dropped to one knee. They had the place to themselves and the waterfall was perfect.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We did a small engagement session among the rainbow Eucalyptus and in the bamboo. Han is a city girl at heart – and we joked that she must really love Rochard if she was willing to brave the river, the muddy path, and the jungle to go with her sweetie to this special place!

Rochard and Han: thank you for choosing me to photograph your waterfall proposal in Maui! You guys are amazing and I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip and ate plenty of that poke!
