Sometimes the best proposals are the ones that feel like a natural next step in a love story. For Ernest and Gloria, that next step brought them all the way to Maui for a sunset picnic proposal surrounded by ocean views and plenty of time to soak in the moment together.

Ernest and Gloria’s story started a little closer to home. The two met through Gloria’s sister, who happened to be a close friend of Ernest’s. When Gloria came to San Francisco to visit her sister, Ernest finally got the chance to meet her. What started as getting to know each other turned into something much more meaningful. They spent time talking, learning about each other, and eventually decided to take the next step into a relationship.

After about two years together, Ernest knew he was ready to take another step!

When he reached out to Engaged on Maui, he already had a pretty good idea of what would make the moment special for Gloria: a sunset, the beach, and a little romance. He wanted to create a proposal that felt thoughtful and intimate while still giving them a chance to celebrate afterward.

And that’s exactly what they did.

The Plan

When Ernest first contacted us, he had already put a lot of thought into what Gloria would love. He shared that her favorite place was the beach and that sunset was her favorite time of day. Naturally, a Maui beach proposal at sunset felt like the perfect fit.

His original idea was simple and incredibly personal. He imagined starting the evening with dinner nearby, giving Gloria a letter to read, and then taking a walk down to the beach together. As they walked along the water, they would eventually reach the perfect spot. Ernest would turn toward Gloria, get down on one knee, and ask her to marry him.

We loved the heart behind his plan.

Rather than making the proposal about an elaborate production, Ernest wanted the focus to be on the two of them. He wanted to create a moment that felt romantic without feeling over-the-top.

The Proposal

Then came the moment they’d been planning for.

With the beach, the ocean, and the Maui sunset setting the scene, Ernest and Gloria made their way toward the water. Everything about the evening felt relaxed and intentional, giving them time to enjoy being together before the big moment.

And then Ernest asked the question. He got down on one knee and asked Gloria to marry him at their sunset picnic proposal.

She said yes, obviously! 💍

There’s something pretty special about being able to go from “Will you marry me?” to “We’re engaged!” and immediately celebrate with the person you love, with the Maui coastline in the background.

For Ernest, the proposal was about giving Gloria a moment that felt personal to her. He knew she loved the beach. He knew she loved sunset. And after two years of falling more in love with her every day, he knew he wanted to make this next chapter something they would always remember.
