Yash and Astha met during freshman year of college. They became friends, then best friends, and finally started dating at the end of that year. Ten years later, after they had seen each other grow and been through long distance, Yash was excited to take the next step with a private sunset sailboat proposal.

THE PLAN:

Privacy was key for his proposal. Right away, Yash was deliberating between proposing at a private landing during a helicopter tour or a sailboat proposal. With either option, it could just be the two of them plus the photographer and crew (helicopter pilot or sailboat captain and first mate).

Since Yash chose a private sunset sailboat proposal, the plan was for our photographer Angie to pretend like she was training to be part of the crew while also taking some new marketing photos during the sail.

We worked with Maui Custom Charters. They are experts on the water and really helped us pull off the plan.

THE PROPOSAL:

When it was time for Yash to propose, he led Astha to the bow and paused so Angie could get into position. He got down on one knee and stayed down long enough for Angie to get some great shots of the moment Astha said yes.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

After the proposal, Yash and Astha celebrated with some champagne and engagement photos around the Nova as the sun set in the distance.

Jordan and Megan had an incredible North Shore proposal. Because Jordan knew he wanted his proposal to Megan to be unique he knew he had to pop the question in Maui. Since he and his family had been visiting Maui for years, it held a special place in his heart. Megan had never been to Maui, and now she will always remember her first visit.

THE PLAN:

Jordan’s mom, June, played a big part in pulling off this North Shore Proposal. She wanted to be sure everything was extra special for the couple. The couple had dinner plans at Mama’s Fish House, but before dinner, Jordan wanted to show Megan his favorite beach.

THE PROPOSAL:

The beach was pristine that evening, and the sky was filled with kite surfers. Megan was in awe of the beauty that surrounded her. The colors in the sky and the beautiful light were genuinely amazing. So Megan took out her cell phone and began to record some video. She was so enthralled with the beauty surrounding her she almost missed Jordan getting down on one knee!!!  When Megan finally realized what was happening she was overcome with joy! After she said yes, the couple walked on the beach to take in the beauty together. Then they were off to celebrate with Jordan’s family over dinner.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

North Shore beach is quickly becoming one of our favorite engagement destinations in Maui because of all the beauty it offers. The variety of scenery is just a few of the amazing things about this unforgettable location.

Aman wanted to do something different than just a beach proposal in Maui.  He knew that Meeta was adventurous and spirited. So he wanted an epic landscape to match who they are as a couple.  Enter this Waihee Ridge Proposal.

THE PLAN:

They actually flew in from Oahu that very same day.  We typically don’t do proposals where you fly in on the same day, but we can when it’s inter-island.  They flew in from Oahu early in the morning, stopped and got some breakfast, and then headed to the Waihee Ridge Trail.  The first three-quarters of a mile of this trail are absolutely gnarly.  You are going to get hot and sweaty.  It’s a real work out.  Aman somehow convinced Meeta to get dressed up to go check out this really cool view on the trail.  She just kept saying,”What are we doing?  Why are we doing this?  Why are we so dressed up for the hike?” But he kept reassuring her that he just wanted to see this really pretty spot and they would go on to their next Maui adventure after taking in this view.

THE PROPOSAL:

He got up to the right spot on the Ridge Trail and dropped to one knee.  The proposal surprised the heck out of her!  We had an absolutely beautiful day up there.  This is one of those proposal spots that is the earlier the better.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

After the proposal was all done we did some photos up on the Ridge Trail itself and then for our second location we headed to a nearby beach so we could get some really beautiful blue water, blue sky shots for this newly engaged couple!

During my correspondence with Ryan, he said to me that he “would love to really surprise her with something she doesn’t see coming. Given that Maui is such a romantic place, I’m worried she may see it coming.” Judging by her incredible reaction, she didn’t see the proposal coming during this romantic beach walk proposal!   

THE PLAN:

For this proposal we actually had to do a last minute location change.  I was headed down to our original location, and because of high winds they actually had to close the beach down.  The DNLR was there and wasn’t letting anyone through.  Luckily, Ryan is a guy who rolls with the punches and we were able to do a last minute location swap.  I gave him on-the-go directions to our new spot, still in South Maui.  It ended up working out really well.  

THE PROPOSAL:

It was an overcast day, so it got dark really fast.  We were able to utilize those last moments of light in the sky when he was proposing.  Tiffanee’s reaction was everything a photographer could ever hope for!  Tears, emotion, joy, and all that good stuff.  

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We were able to stay on the beach for our whole thirty minute session and got many beautiful shots.  At the end of the day everything worked out!  And this is why you hire someone who specializes in proposals so they can make quick decisions if you have to do a last minute location change!

Incredible Cliffside Sunset Proposal on Maui

I had actually been talking to Adin since June of 2017.  He really wanted to make sure he had plenty of time to think about and plan out every detail of his proposal to his long time girlfriend Mika.  They met in flight school, they’re both pilots.  Right after he proposed a Hawaiian Airlines plane flew over them as if we had planned it!  This incredible cliffside sunset proposal on Maui couldn’t have been more beautiful!

THE PLAN:

He wanted to propose in a spot that was a little more unique than a beach–which I always love!  I had scouted this area because a friend had told me about this gem.  My friend told me that there was this really cool spot that fishermen like to use and it has AMAZING views of Lana’i and Kaho’olawe and the whale activity we get this time of year.  I showed it to Adin and he thought it would be the perfect spot.  

THE PROPOSAL:

We timed it right with sunset–which was beyond gorgeous that evening.  She was totally blown away.  Right before he dropped down on one knee he said to her, “In ten years we are going to come back to this spot and we’re going to tell this story to our children.”  Queue the tears.  There are some shots of him checking out the ring.  Turns out the the two stones to the side of the center diamond were smuggled out of Poland in World War II by his family.  So that’s pretty amazing.  There was so much sentiment and meaning behind this ring.  He also had the ring customized, engraved with a M for Mika and on the other side engraved with an A for Adin.  

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We had lots of whales during this session.  It was so cool to do something different for this engagement because Maui has so much more to offer than just its pristine white beaches.

West Maui Mountain Sunset Proposal

When James originally reached out about his intended proposal to Chrystine, he told me he wanted a beautiful, picturesque spot.  But he didn’t know exactly what that was, besides wanting an amazing location on Maui.  And I have to admit, here on Engaged on Maui we do a lot of the same locations for our proposals because that’s what people have seen.  Men tend to be very visual human beings, and they tend to want what they’ve already seen. However, James was willing to take a risk and go on my recommendation. I’m so glad he did because this West Maui Mountain Sunset Proposal was so on point!

The Plan:

We chose an area centrally located between Wailea and Lahaina.  This place is really lovely because the sunsets behind the West Maui Mountains which makes the sky glow.  It’s typically a wide open, empty beach, which makes it incredibly appealing too!

The Proposal:

There were a few fishermen out on the beach that evening, and they stayed near the entrance to the beach manning their fishing poles.  James and Chrystine, meanwhile, walked down the beach a ways, and I discretely followed from behind.  When the moment was right, James got down on one knee and popped the question!  What I really loved was that James stayed down on his knee for a solid minute which gave me a lot of time to get a bunch of shots of her reaction and the setting around them.

The Engagement Session:

We got a really lovely sunset that evening.  They even chose to do an orchid lei exchange–we just loved that!  It gives a little Hawaiian flare to their engagement session.  And lastly, we were just so grateful that James entrusted to capture his proposal but also try out a new location.

On their last day of their Maui trip, Liron decided he wanted to finish their trip in spectacular style by booking the Four Seasons Maui Ultimate Dinner Proposal.

THE PLAN:

Everything was laid out, we had a plan set, but the weather wasn’t cooperating.  It’s so unusual for the South Shore to get rain like we were expecting.  It had been raining all day.  We had our eyes glued to the radar all day to be sure we could pull off this proposal!  The rain just kept coming in and out, and we decided to just cross our fingers and hope for the best.

THE PROPOSAL:

We put a little pop-up tent over the set-up so we could keep the flowers and everything all nice and dry.  And, thankfully, it turned out really lovely. When they arrived, Liron led Samatha out to the table, and she gushed over the flowers. Shortly after they sat down, Liron popped the question under the tent.  Samantha was so surprised, and of course she said, “Yes!”

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We left from there to do an engagement session down by the beach at the Four Seasons and the surrounding area.  The sunset was really lovely that night with the storm clouds turning purple overhead and some pink sky coming through.  That just goes to show you that even if it’s stormy we can still create beautiful images and pull off a great proposal!

Liron and Samantha:  Congratulations on your Four Seasons Maui Ultimate Dinner proposal!  I loved that you were willing to brave the possible rain and wound up with a gorgeous proposal!  Cheers to a happy lifetime together!

Caitlin is another photographer here on the island.  She’s been with Mikey the better part of a decade.  He’s just been waiting for the right time to pop the question.  So, when he heard that Caitlin’s brother was going to be in town, he felt like that was the right time.  He called me up the day before, and asked if I would help him with a last minute Maui North Shore beach proposal.  I told him, “You just tell me where, and I’ll be there!”

THE PLAN:

There is this really cool little pocket beach in north Maui that is typically pretty empty.  It’s kind of pushed back in this cove, and there’s not a ton of wind.  Mikey came up with a plan for how to get Caitlin to that beach, and I just hung out in the bushes waiting for them to get there.  He had this cool idea that I hadn’t seen before.  Just before they started their walk down the beach, Mikey surreptitiously called Caitlin’s mom. Then he dropped his phone into his pocket so her mom could hear the whole thing!

THE PROPOSAL:

Phone in his pocket, Mikey and Caitlin made their way down to the beach.  He led her to the water’s edge.  When the time was right, he dropped down to one knee and popped the question!  It was a really moving moment, especially because I’ve known both of them for a couple years now.  It was really cool to see him finally ask her to marry him because all of the friends have been hounding them about when it was going to happen!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

The sunset was gorgeous on the north shore just after the proposal.  We popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate!  We did a few engagement photos there on the beach, and then they were on their way to Hali’imaile General Store to have a fancy engagement dinner!

Travis and Ali were from Michigan and were on Maui for their babymoon-adventure.  For their last big trip before they became parents, Travis thought a babymoon proposal in South Maui was the perfect addition to their trip!

THE PLAN:

Travis originally wanted a Haleakala proposal, but because Ali was pregnant, her doctor suggested that she not go up to the 10,000 foot mark.  So, we changed course and planned on a sunrise proposal on the North Shore.  The morning of the proposal was on its way and the North Shore was just dumping rain. At the last minute, we were able to seamlessly change it up.  We actually met at a South Maui location instead and enjoyed the colors of the sunrise from there.

THE PROPOSAL:

When they got to the South Maui beach, Travis led her out, and I was slyly following behind them.  He found the perfect place and dropped to one knee!  I captured every second of the proposal.  She was so surprised, and of course, she said YES!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

During the engagement session, we got some amazing rainbows.  A HUGE honu (sea turtle) even popped out and we got to enjoy that Maui photobomb moment.  It was really great to photograph some folks from my home state.  We explored the area right around the proposal beach and came upon a lovely wooden boardwalk and got some beautiful sweetheart shots there. They were even willing to get wet for a couple shots!  I loved photographing these two who were up for anything, even while pregnant!

Ali and Travis:  Congratulations on your engagement (and your baby-to-be!).  So glad that the third location was the charm for your babymoon proposal in South Maui!
