Sashi and Brittney met in college and have been together for 10 years. Sashi describes Brittney as “pretty amazing and most definitely my better half.” Brittney is a bookworm, loves the beach, water, and sunsets. For his proposal, Sashi wanted to combine everything Brittney loves. He came up with the idea for this beach library proposal! This was such a unique idea and so true to Brittney’s personality. We were so excited to be part of making this happen!

THE PLAN:

It’s always interesting to hear our client’s ideas and figure out how we can bring their ideas to life. After talking to Sashi on the phone, we figured out that it would be cool to set up a small bookshelf with assorted books on it. Sashi would create a plan so that he and Brittney would already be spending the special day in the area. Then it would be natural for him to suggest they head to the beach right before sunset.

The cover story was that this eclectic character who had a passion for reading sets up this little shelf of books on the beach for people to enjoy every week. We decided it would be best to actually have a fake librarian there to add authenticity of the story and invite Brittney to take a look if she seemed hesitant. We created some details that our fake librarian could talk about just in case Brittney asked.

Because we were setting up a bigger prop on the beach, it was super important to pick the right location and time. We didn’t want tons of other curious beachgoers to check out the beach library. In order to give the proposal the greatest chance of privacy, we did not want to set up on any beaches nearby the hotels or do the proposal on a weekend. We suggested a spot that would most likely be more secluded and make sense for our cover story. Sashi was very go-with-the-flow and happy to hand over the reins to let us take over the planning. Thinking about these details and setting you up for success is a big part of what we do!

THE PROPOSAL:

Sashi and Brittney showed up right on time. Just as we hoped, the beach was quiet and the lighting was beautiful! Brittney was pretty psyched to see this cute little beach library set up. Angie, the owner of Engaged on Maui, acted as our fake librarian while our associate photographer Amber waited on the sidelines, capturing everything.

The original plan was for Sashi to send us a special book to place on the shelf, which he would find and present to Brittney right before he proposed. But by the time the book was finished, it would have been cutting it close to guarantee that it would be shipped to us in time. Instead, Sashi kept the book and took it out from his bag.

We love the shot where you can see Sashi holding the book behind his back and the moment that Brittney opens it and has the first hint of what’s coming.

Sashi led Brittney a tad closer to the ocean and then got down on one knee. Angie stepped away to give them more privacy. While we couldn’t hear exactly what was said, it was clear that Brittney was overjoyed!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

After some hugs, kisses, and admiring her new engagement ring, Sashi pointed out the photographer and Brittney realized it was all a set up! Brittney was definitely shocked and surprised. Seeing that moment of realization is sometimes almost as good as the proposal itself.

Brittney and Sashi are really natural and comfortable together. They had so much fun just walking, playing, and loving it up on the beach. We had a blast witnessing their newly-engaged joy as the sun went down.

Sunset Cliff Proposal on Maui’s North Shore

Michael was originally thinking of a Haleakala sunrise proposal. However, we need at least one month to reserve Haleakala at sunrise and we only had about a week to plan. Michael and Erin are outdoorsy and love to hike. Michael said few spots would be off limits. We jumped at the opportunity to suggest this north shore cliff location, which fit perfectly into their existing vacation plans.

THE PLAN:

On the day of the proposal, Michael and Erin planned to drive the Road to Hana. Michael was able to get reservations at Mama’s Fish House to enjoy on the way back. Their reservation was for afternoon, between lunch and dinner, before sunset. The timing worked out so that they could have a leisurely meal and then Michael could suggest going to the proposal spot to watch the sunset.

THE PROPOSAL:

Michael led Erin to where they could look out at the Pacific Ocean. Since there was nowhere for our photographer Tenessa to hide, she followed them discreetly from behind and was poised and ready to capture the big moment. Erin looked surprised at first and then couldn’t stop beaming from ear to ear!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

The rocky terrain made a beautiful contrast to the blue water and the clouds added drama to the sky. The off-the-beaten path location was very fitting for an outdoorsy couple. Michael and Erin were so sweet! They couldn’t keep their eyes off each other and loved holding each other close.

Jordan and Megan had an incredible North Shore proposal. Because Jordan knew he wanted his proposal to Megan to be unique he knew he had to pop the question in Maui. Since he and his family had been visiting Maui for years, it held a special place in his heart. Megan had never been to Maui, and now she will always remember her first visit.

THE PLAN:

Jordan’s mom, June, played a big part in pulling off this North Shore Proposal. She wanted to be sure everything was extra special for the couple. The couple had dinner plans at Mama’s Fish House, but before dinner, Jordan wanted to show Megan his favorite beach.

THE PROPOSAL:

The beach was pristine that evening, and the sky was filled with kite surfers. Megan was in awe of the beauty that surrounded her. The colors in the sky and the beautiful light were genuinely amazing. So Megan took out her cell phone and began to record some video. She was so enthralled with the beauty surrounding her she almost missed Jordan getting down on one knee!!!  When Megan finally realized what was happening she was overcome with joy! After she said yes, the couple walked on the beach to take in the beauty together. Then they were off to celebrate with Jordan’s family over dinner.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

North Shore beach is quickly becoming one of our favorite engagement destinations in Maui because of all the beauty it offers. The variety of scenery is just a few of the amazing things about this unforgettable location.

Tyler contacted us trying to decide between a proposal at Haleakala Crater or Haiku Mill. He knew Emily would love both, so it was important to discuss the differences of each location. Loving the idea of proposing at a private venue, Tyler decided this romantic Haiku Mill proposal was the ideal setting to ask Emily to be his wife!

THE PLAN:

Haiku Mill is a coveted wedding venue, so we like to check availability as soon as possible. That way, we can have a better chance of snagging a private proposal time. Fortunately, Tyler was able to be flexible with the proposal date and Haiku Mill had availability while they were going to be on Maui! The plan was for Tyler and Emily to arrive at Haiku Mill with Emily under the impression that they were there for a Historical Botanical Tour. Little did she know, that she was about to get engaged to the love of her life!

THE PROPOSAL:

Haiku Mill is a rain-or-shine location. There is a glass ceiling above the proposal area just in case of rain. But we didn’t have to worry about rain at all that day! The sun was shining. Plus,Tyler upped the romance by adding a rose petal scattering right under the proposal site. The tour guide led them into the Mill and left to turn on the chandelier. This was Tyler’s cue to pop the question and photographer Amber captured the whole experience!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

After the proposal, we took advantage of all the lush greenery on property and also had fun with those rose petals. We love that this venue is available on Maui and these photos will look timeless years down the road!

Matthew and Raven were staying on Oahu. Upon researching proposal ideas, Matthew planned a day trip to Maui. We were so thrilled help him plan a romantic proposal! Since the trip was just for one day, we needed a location nearby the airport. Luckily, we have a few great options that are both beautiful and convenient. He ultimately chose this north shore beach proposal with mountain view. The nice thing about this beach is that it’s pretty off-the-beaten path, which makes it feel more private. It was perfect for Raven because Matthew knows she doesn’t like to be in the spotlight or in crowds.

THE PLAN:

Matthew added on a message in a bottle for his proposal. This is great for guys who are better writers than speakers or are afraid they might forget to say everything they want to. It also adds a memorable keepsake to the proposal and takes the guesswork out of where you need to go. Although we do send you a detailed itinerary and instructions on where to get down on one knee, when you have the message in a bottle, we place it where we want you to be. All you have to do is find the bottle!

THE PROPOSAL:

Matthew and Raven found the bottle as planned. We loved the look the excitement and anticipation on Raven’s face as she read the message and then Matthew got down on his knee! They video called family to share the good news afterwards and then our photographer came out of hiding.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Matthew initially couldn’t decide between catching an early flight back to Oahu to watch a fireworks show or staying on Maui to catch the sunset. We are so glad he chose to stay for sunset because it was a gorgeous one! Then they celebrated with an awesome dinner at Mama’s Fish House.

Michael wanted to pop the question on his way to lunch at Mama’s Fish House.  So, he decided to stop by a nearby beach.  We love this beach for morning and even early afternoon proposals because the water is so blue and beautiful.  And you get these great views of the West Maui Mountains from this beach!  One of the best parts of proposing on this beach is you can almost always find a spot here where there is NO ONE around!  This was a lovely private North Shore beach proposal on Maui.

THE PLAN:

Michael was having a little bit of a difficult time getting Morgan to get going this day!  He insisted she wear something nice (for the photos, of course, but he couldn’t tell her why!).  But Morgan was insisting that she just wanted to wear her bathing suit out for the day because they were on Maui after all!  He cajoled her into wearing a darling outfit, and she looked fantastic!

THE PROPOSAL:

They came out to the beach, he found the perfect, private spot, and dropped to one knee!  When he asked her to marry him, her jaw hit the floor!  During the proposal we got these great shots of the bright blue water and the white sand beach.  It was breathtaking!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We stayed at that North Shore beach for a sweet little engagement session.  One other fun fact about this location is we can get a lot of variation in the looks of the images here.  There are some gorgeous beach shots and some photos with greenery in them.  There’s just a lot to choose from here!

I can’t imagine anything more perfectly suited for this couple than this Twin Falls Maui proposal!  You’ve gotta love a couple who is up for a beautiful hike on Maui while on vacation with their family.  And you’ve gotta love that Andrew wanted family to be a part of this proposal.

THE PLAN:

Andrew contacted Engaged on Maui knowing that he wanted to propose while on a cool hike on Maui. Anything adventurous is right up our alley, so we suggested Twin Falls.  As soon as he saw the possibilities of where to propose there, he was all in!  They came on vacation here with family, and Andrew wanted to propose in front of the whole crew.  He knew Julie would love it because she’s such a family-focused person.  Because of their dinner plans for later in the day (heading to one of my all-time-favorites Mama’s Fish House), we had a mid-day proposal lined up for them.  While this isn’t a typical time of day we shoot proposals, it turned out beautifully!

THE PROPOSAL:

When Andrew, Julie, and family made it to a place on the hike that was a little less busy, he pulled her off to the side in front of a gorgeous waterfall.  Once he took her to this more secluded spot, he dropped down to one knee and asked her to marry him!  She was so surprised!  Of course, she said a great big “YES!” and the family swooped in with hugs and kisses for them both!

 THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Our associate photographer Chantelle did a beautiful job capturing images of the happy newly-engaged couple at Twin Falls for a bit.  After that, we headed to the beach at Mama’s Fish House to get some fantastic shots.  For these two, the Perfect Proposal Package was a great option because they got such terrific variation in their shots between the Maui jungle and the beautiful Maui beaches!

I love a man with a plan!  When Victor contacted us, he shared his vision board of what he wanted for his proposal to Mariah.  He planned on painting canvases that told their love story and wanted to have a gazebo proposal on Maui!  

THE PLAN:

On Maui, we are kind of limited in the amount of gazebos we have.  But we were on the hunt for one. We knew of a beautiful one at Maui Tropical Plantation, and when we sent a photo of it to Victor he was sold!  Victor in turn sent us the canvases and a drawing of the set-up of exactly how he wanted it placed. We put all the hand-painted canvases up lining the walkway and the last one inside the gazebo.  It was the sweetest thing we’ve ever seen!  

THE PROPOSAL:

When they got to Maui Tropical Plantation, Victor led Mariah down the walk lined with paintings of their love story.  As they entered the gazebo, the last painting was sitting there, just like planned, and he dropped to one knee and proposed.  It went off without a hitch, and of course, she said “YES!” She was so surprised, and I know she felt so loved by having such a personalized proposal!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We stayed at the Maui Tropical Plantation for the majority of their session.  Then we headed over to one of our favorite beach spots in the area to add some diversity to the photos.  All the love and attention Victor put into his proposal was worth every second!

These two lovebirds were in Oahu for their vacation, but Hongquan wanted the to propose on Maui.  He and Wen planned on travelling to Maui for a couple days of their trip, so he planned the proposal for while they were on island.  One of the priorities for Hongquan was a private beach and beautiful colors. We knew that a spectacular sunrise proposal on Maui can’t be beat, and he agreed!

THE PLAN:

It’s not always easy to get someone who is on vacation out of bed early enough to see the sunrise, but here on Maui, it’ll always be worth it!  Hongquan just needed to convince Wen to take a beautiful sunrise beach walk on the North Shore, and Engaged on Maui would take care of the rest of it!

THE PROPOSAL:

The sunrise was epic that morning!  The pinks and purples filled the skies as Wen and Hongquan walked the quiet beach.  At just the right time, he took her hand in his and dropped to one knee! He asked, she said “Yes!”  After they hugged it out for a minute, Hongquan pointed our photographer out, and Wen was so surprised!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We did a little exploring Maui’s North Shore with these two sweethearts.  One of our favorite moments of the morning was when we happened upon a HONU!  The sea turtle was so huge and was just hanging out on the sand. We just had to snap a photo of them with her!
