Dan had all the main ideas in place for his personalized South Maui beach proposal to his high school sweetheart Camille.  He knew he wanted to propose on Camille’s favorite beach, involve her love of Disney, and have her family there as a bonus surprise.  He just needed our help to pull it off and, of course, capture the big moment!

THE PLAN:

Camille and her family are frequent Maui visitors and they have a special beach that has become their go-to spot.  This made it a little easier to get Camille down to the beach.  To make the proposal even more memorable, Dan added a couple extra surprises.  First, he sent us a Stitch-themed box filled with pictures and keepsakes for Camille to find on the beach before the proposal.  Second, he wanted Camille’s family to watch him pop the question.

THE PROPOSAL:

Family surprises are always fun, but have to be planned at the right location so there is a good place for family to hide without being spotted.  Luckily, Camille’s favorite beach has a beach path where our photographer Chantelle and Camille’s family could watch.  Camille found the Stitch box and then it was Dan’s time to shine.  He did a great job of facing Camille so everyone could see her reaction.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Dan had originally wanted to point out the photographer and the family surprise at the same time.  However, we convinced him to delay the family surprise for a bit.  We wanted Camille to have a little time to soak in the fact that she just got engaged to the love of her life.  We also wanted to give Chantelle a chance to get in a better position for close up reaction shots, especially since Camille had no idea her parents were going to be there!

Chantelle walked down to greet our couple and start their engagement session.  She asked them to face the ocean to start.  This was the family’s cue to get into place for the surprise.  When Camille turned around, boy was she surprised!  You could feel all the love and joy!  We were able to snap some lovely family photos.  Then Dan and Camille had their time for fun, romantic shots.  The timing was a little earlier than sunset to accommodate dinner reservations and flight times, but the lighting was still beautiful!  We loved seeing everything come together for this sweet couple!

Matthew and Raven were staying on Oahu. Upon researching proposal ideas, Matthew planned a day trip to Maui. We were so thrilled help him plan a romantic proposal! Since the trip was just for one day, we needed a location nearby the airport. Luckily, we have a few great options that are both beautiful and convenient. He ultimately chose this north shore beach proposal with mountain view. The nice thing about this beach is that it’s pretty off-the-beaten path, which makes it feel more private. It was perfect for Raven because Matthew knows she doesn’t like to be in the spotlight or in crowds.

THE PLAN:

Matthew added on a message in a bottle for his proposal. This is great for guys who are better writers than speakers or are afraid they might forget to say everything they want to. It also adds a memorable keepsake to the proposal and takes the guesswork out of where you need to go. Although we do send you a detailed itinerary and instructions on where to get down on one knee, when you have the message in a bottle, we place it where we want you to be. All you have to do is find the bottle!

THE PROPOSAL:

Matthew and Raven found the bottle as planned. We loved the look the excitement and anticipation on Raven’s face as she read the message and then Matthew got down on his knee! They video called family to share the good news afterwards and then our photographer came out of hiding.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Matthew initially couldn’t decide between catching an early flight back to Oahu to watch a fireworks show or staying on Maui to catch the sunset. We are so glad he chose to stay for sunset because it was a gorgeous one! Then they celebrated with an awesome dinner at Mama’s Fish House.

This was our first picnic proposal at the Maui Dragonfruit Farm that we have now partnered with!  We are really excited to now offer this new, private venue along side our Haiku Mill and the Four Seasons for dudes who want privacy during their proposal.  The Maui Dragonfruit Farm is located in Launiupoko in West Maui.

THE PLAN:

Shalin wanted something extra special so we gathered a few more Maui peeps to get the perfect proposal all set.  We partnered with Lucy Soulshine Creations.    She puts together these fantastic, custom-made picnics.  Shalin decided since they were going to dinner later, they wanted something lighter.  So, Lucy put together a mixture of local fruits and some sparkling water and some cheeses.  Shalin also wanted a lot of flowers, so we worked with Floralette to create a gorgeous floral arch and hanging flowers.

THE PROPOSAL:

Shalin got Shradha to the farm saying that they were going to have a tour that had a picnic as part of the tour.  Of course, unbeknownst to Shradha he was going to propose.  They sat down and enjoyed some of the yummy treats.  And when the timing was right, Shalin popped the question!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Shalin had been going back and forth with whether or not to include the TV show Friends into the proposal (because they both love the show) Lucy brought a little sign out that said “I’ll be there for you” as an added bonus.  It was a fun touch to incorporate into their photo shoot.  They enjoyed their picnic.  Did some awesome photos at the Dragonfruit farm and went down to a gorgeous beach just two minutes down the road.  They were able to catch a pretty epic sunset that night.

I can’t imagine anything more perfectly suited for this couple than this Twin Falls Maui proposal!  You’ve gotta love a couple who is up for a beautiful hike on Maui while on vacation with their family.  And you’ve gotta love that Andrew wanted family to be a part of this proposal.

THE PLAN:

Andrew contacted Engaged on Maui knowing that he wanted to propose while on a cool hike on Maui. Anything adventurous is right up our alley, so we suggested Twin Falls.  As soon as he saw the possibilities of where to propose there, he was all in!  They came on vacation here with family, and Andrew wanted to propose in front of the whole crew.  He knew Julie would love it because she’s such a family-focused person.  Because of their dinner plans for later in the day (heading to one of my all-time-favorites Mama’s Fish House), we had a mid-day proposal lined up for them.  While this isn’t a typical time of day we shoot proposals, it turned out beautifully!

THE PROPOSAL:

When Andrew, Julie, and family made it to a place on the hike that was a little less busy, he pulled her off to the side in front of a gorgeous waterfall.  Once he took her to this more secluded spot, he dropped down to one knee and asked her to marry him!  She was so surprised!  Of course, she said a great big “YES!” and the family swooped in with hugs and kisses for them both!

 THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Our associate photographer Chantelle did a beautiful job capturing images of the happy newly-engaged couple at Twin Falls for a bit.  After that, we headed to the beach at Mama’s Fish House to get some fantastic shots.  For these two, the Perfect Proposal Package was a great option because they got such terrific variation in their shots between the Maui jungle and the beautiful Maui beaches!

These two lovebirds were in Oahu for their vacation, but Hongquan wanted the to propose on Maui.  He and Wen planned on travelling to Maui for a couple days of their trip, so he planned the proposal for while they were on island.  One of the priorities for Hongquan was a private beach and beautiful colors. We knew that a spectacular sunrise proposal on Maui can’t be beat, and he agreed!

THE PLAN:

It’s not always easy to get someone who is on vacation out of bed early enough to see the sunrise, but here on Maui, it’ll always be worth it!  Hongquan just needed to convince Wen to take a beautiful sunrise beach walk on the North Shore, and Engaged on Maui would take care of the rest of it!

THE PROPOSAL:

The sunrise was epic that morning!  The pinks and purples filled the skies as Wen and Hongquan walked the quiet beach.  At just the right time, he took her hand in his and dropped to one knee! He asked, she said “Yes!”  After they hugged it out for a minute, Hongquan pointed our photographer out, and Wen was so surprised!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We did a little exploring Maui’s North Shore with these two sweethearts.  One of our favorite moments of the morning was when we happened upon a HONU!  The sea turtle was so huge and was just hanging out on the sand. We just had to snap a photo of them with her!

Bear reached out to us wanting help planning her proposal to Buck.  She wanted to propose to her sweetheart of many years, and she thought Maui was the perfect place to do it.  We created a really sweet set up for them the day before their engagement photos.  Bear and Buck chose to not have their proposal documented.  Which was fine because it led to this really beautiful mini engagement session in North Maui the next day!

The following day they met our associate photographer Chantelle out on the beach for the photo session.  The engagement session was a quick thirty-minute engagement session.  They brought their newly adopted dog named Whiskey.  Whiskey is a one-eyed pit bull they adopted from Maui Humane Society.  They decided that having a furry friend at their photo session would be a great way to remind them of their time on Maui.  And getting engaged, of course!

We got some really cute shots of them playing on the beach together.  And we were sure to get some shots of them playing with Whiskey, too.  At the end of their session, they decided to just throw caution to the wind and jump in the ocean.  We always love it when our couples wind up wet by the end of their photo session.

Joe did something we wish more couples would do.  He decided to go in a little more forward approach to his proposal.  Instead of doing a more paparazzi/ninja/hide-in-the bushes style proposal, he wanted to go another route.  He wanted to pretend that he and his sweetie Christine had been gifted a fun portrait session from one of the hotel photographers where they were staying.  So, we created this planned photo shoot turned surprise proposal for them. This style worked out great because we could plan 100% exactly how it would go down.  Typically, we have a really great plan set in place, but there are always a lot of variables and this is a way to control all of them!

THE PLAN:

We started the photo session–the part that Christine was privy to–at a beach down in South Maui.  After spending about 15 or 20 minutes there we moved down to our proposal spot.  What was really cool about this proposal was that Joe had conspired with all of their friends to show up at the beach and surprise Christine after the proposal.

THE PROPOSAL:

The friends actually got to the beach early, and they set out a circle of rose petals on the sand.  When Chantelle, Joe and Christine arrived at the beach, Chantelle said, “Hey, let’s get some photos with these rose petals.  I’ve never seen this before.” Kind of playing it off.  Chantelle had Christine turn around and face the palm trees for a “special shot”.  And in that moment, Joe dropped down to one knee to pop the question when Christine turned back around.  She of course was super surprised and said, “YES!”

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Christine was even more surprised when she saw her friends come barreling out of a tent that was hiding in the woods! When we had initially discussed the plan, they were just going to be hiding in the woods.  So we thought it was really fun that they were recording the whole thing and hiding in the tent that was pushed back into the woods.  After all the wonderful hugs, kisses, and tears, we got back to the engagement session.  First, we got some shots of them on some cool lava rocks and then playing by the ocean.  And we finished their engagement session with a spectacular sunset.

Algin reached out to me about wanting to pop the question to his sweetie Miguel.  He wanted to go over the top.  We knew that an over the top Four Seasons proposal was the perfect way to do it.  We love having proposals at Plumeria Point there.

THE PLAN:

So the big question was how we were going to get Miguel up there without tipping him off that something was going on.  We created a fake experience through the Four Seasons where both of them were going to be blindfolded and they were going to use their five senses to experience Maui.  So they put the blindfold on Miguel first, and they secretly did not put one on Algin.  The server, Mark (who is always our server for these proposals and always amazing) led them up to Plumeria Point.

THE PROPOSAL:

He then took Miguel’s hand and led him over to where the proposal was going to happen and Algin was already up on Plumeria Point waiting for him.  When Miguel took off his blindfold, his sweetie was there ready to propose!  We had an ukulele player playing their song when Algin dropped to one knee and proposed.  Of course, Miguel said, “YES!”

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Then we went to Wailea Beach just below the Four Seasons to have a small engagement session.  That beach is always a little bit busy, but luckily that evening the beach was relatively empty.  So that was a happy surprise for us.  After their engagement session, we returned to Plumeria Point where Mark and the Four Seasons’ staff had flipped the space.  They turned the proposal location to a dining location.  The men were able to enjoy the Ultimate Dinner Experience up at Plumeria Point which was a spectacular way to round off the whole proposal experience.

Algin and Miguel:  Congratulations on you over the top Four Seasons proposal!  We loved every minute of planning this wonderful surprise with you!

Blake and I had chatted over the phone multiple times about coming up with a cool idea for his proposal to Kristina.  He wanted to make this proposal extra special for his sweetie.  We always encourage guys to think of ways to personalize their proposals.  Anyone can get down on one knee on a beach, but to add a personal touch is the story that she’s going to tell.  I hope you love this buried treasure proposal much as we did!

Blake has this story about how when he first met Kristina she was working in a bakery.  When he came in she was holding hotdog buns.  He was there to buy chocolate covered strawberries.  So he said, “Hey, nice buns.  How much are your chocolate covered strawberries?”  And that of course sparked some conversation and the next thing you know they were dating. They are also into pirates.  It’s their jam.  

THE PLAN:

So, Blake sent me a treasure chest through the mail to use as a prop for the proposal.  Of course, we filled it with hotdog buns and chocolate covered strawberries!  Our awesome photographer, Chantelle, got to dig a little hole in the beach.  She used some rocks to make an “X” for “X” marks the spot over where the treasure chest was buried.  There was a digging spade next to it, too.  I guess she made the “X” a little too small because at first Blake had a hard time finding where it was.  But luckily they found it!

THE PROPOSAL:

When they got to “X” marks the spot, they dug up the treasure chest.  When Kristina opened the chest, she immediately knew what was going on!  She gave him this look that we caught on camera as soon as she figured it out, that is to die for!  He dropped down to one knee and asked her to marry him!  And, of course, she said, “YES!”

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We had a gorgeous day and an incredible engagement session.  They had fun with some pirate themed photos that we really liked, too!  We ended up at the black sand beach and honestly, we could’ve photographed this couple all day!  There were so many photos in their gallery because they were just so photogenic!

Michael wanted to do something that was a little bit different.  He and his sweet girlfriend Emily are self-proclaimed as “not a beach couple.” He wanted something unique, and he was really drawn to having a proposal at Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm.  We were totally on board with this location because we just love doing stuff that is different. 

THE PLAN:

I had been in contact with Michael for a couple months, and we went back and forth talking about the growing seasons and when the lavender would be in bloom because they have different harvesting seasons.  When we did location scouting, we looked at about four different spots at the lavender farm. We ultimately chose this deck with a beautiful view looking over all of Maui from above. The first date we had chosen for this proposal actually got rained out. We had a crazy storm roll through, and we even had thunderstorms which is incredibly unusual for us.  Michael was so awesome he just rolled with the punches. We decided that we were going to go for it a few days later. 

THE PROPOSAL:

As they walked in through the fields of blooming lavender, we started snapping away.  Down on the deck, we had a little setup of lavender coffee and lavender scones from the farm ready for them as they walked over. They went to enjoy the deck on their own for a bit and when Michael was ready he dropped down to one knee and popped the question!  Of course she said YES! 

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We did some of our engagement session around the lavender farm and then we drove up further into the mountain. We went into the forest up there, and it was awesome because the clouds roll in right on top of you. This photo session was so diverse because we had the bright colors of the lavender farm and then this romantic light that came through the forest for the later part of our session.  This couple was so endearing, they were laughing together the whole day.
