Their proposal took place along a small pathway leading to a scenic overlook, where glowing “Marry Me” marquee letters and vibrant florals created a beautiful surprise waiting just ahead. Andy and Joy are a little different from many of the couples we work with. This will be the second marriage for both of them, and their story is a reminder that love doesn’t follow a single timeline. When Andy first shared their story with us, it was clear how much respect and admiration he had for Joy. The two met nearly ten years ago at work in a setting that wasn’t exactly designed for romance. Joy was an attorney representing the department in a lawsuit, and Andy worked in law enforcement as the subject matter expert for the case. The plan was simple: Andy would guide Joy down the pathway as if they were simply exploring the area together. When they reached the overlook and the proposal setup came into view, he would pause, share what was on his heart, and ask the question he had been waiting years to ask.
What made this proposal particularly meaningful was the history behind it.
For many years, Andy and Joy lived five hours apart. Their children were settled in their respective hometowns, so relocating right away wasn’t an option.
Instead, they made long distance work.
