THE PLAN:

At the pre-arranged time, Shawn would walk hand in hand with Kim down the secluded rocky beach to the perfect proposal spot. There was a message in a bottle waiting for Kim in the spot Shawn had selected.  Our associate photographer Amber would be at the ready hidden behind some bushes to photograph them when they got there.

THE PROPOSAL:

When the couple arrived at the location, Shawn got down on one knee and proposed.  Kim was completely surprised. The couple enjoyed some blissful time together celebrating the occasion and then it was time to share the news with their families who were waiting just on the other side of the beach to congratulate them.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

Shortly after the proposal celebration with family, we had a small engagement session right on the secluded beach. Shawn didn’t want the excitement to end there so he planned a sweet mini picnic for Kim. The picnic included some of her most favorite treats, Cheese-Its, and Flaming Hot Cheetos. Don’t worry he also remembered the sparkling cider! After their picnic celebration, we grabbed some images on the beach incorporating the beautiful lava rocks. After Shawn and Kim’s surprise secluded beach proposal they celebrated their first Christmas as an engaged couple.

Is a Maui Beach Proposal Right for You?

Maui has over thirty miles of beaches. In fact, Maui boasts more miles of accessible beach land than any of the other Hawaiian Islands. Some of these beaches have even been voted among the best beaches in the world!

If you are looking for a proposal setting that represents idyllic Hawaii, a beach proposal might be right for you. However, it is important for you to know the following facts before choosing one of our Beach Proposal Packages.

There will be other people around

Hawaii does not have any private beaches, which means there will likely be people on the beach. This does not necessarily mean you will have an audience when you pop the question. But it does mean there will likely be other beachgoers enjoying the water or sitting farther away on the sand.

Don’t fret, though! We happen to know the best spots that tend to be more secluded. Plus, our photographers shoot at angles to avoid photobombers.

For the best chance at a less crowded beach, we recommend choosing a weekday or even an early morning or sunrise proposal time. Weekends and holidays are naturally going to be a little busier with kids being off from school and local families wanting to hang out too.

We can’t control the weather

Our mild tropical climate makes Maui an awesome beach destination all year long. While it does rain here, weather patterns depend greatly on where you are on the island. Maui is filled with many microclimates. Meaning, it can be pouring rain in one spot and be completely sunny a couple minutes down the road. Luckily, the majority of the beaches we use for proposals are located in very dry, sunny areas.

If you don’t want to worry about rain at the beach, your best bet will be to pick a beach on the south side of the island. This region is comprised of Kihei, Wailea, and Makena, which averages just a few inches of rain a year.

No alcohol allowed

Unfortunately, per state law, alcohol is not allowed on the beach. If you want to toast your beach engagement, it will either have to be done with sparkling cider or wait until a romantic dinner.

Easy reason to get that special someone there

We are pretty certain that it will not be hard to convince your significant other to stop and take a walk on a beautiful beach. You can even say you heard there could be turtles or dolphins! This will help build the excitement for your proposal beach of choice.

Plenty of beach choices

From lava rocks to palm trees, wide open space, cliffs and more, there are many gorgeous beaches to choose from! We are certain any of Maui’s gorgeous locations will help you achieve the picture perfect proposal you have in mind!

Good excuse to return back to Maui

Keenan met Michelle in a dance troupe in their senior year of college.  They have been crazy about each other ever since. Recently, they took a super romantic trip to Cancun, and while there talked about getting engaged.  So, while Michelle knew a proposal would be coming at some point, she didn’t know when or where! Booking their last minute trip to Maui, Keenan contacted us to get their chartered helicopter proposal in East Maui off the ground!

THE PLAN:

When planning this trip, one thing Keenan was really clear about was wanting somewhere incredibly private.  So, the chartered helicopter with just the two of them was the perfect choice! Air Maui was going to take the couple (and our associate photographer Amber) to the East Side of Maui for a private location for their proposal.  

THE PROPOSAL:

After we touched down, Keenan and Michelle “explored” the location for a bit.  Really, though, Keenan was leading her to just the right spot to propose! When they got to the cliff side, he dropped on one knee and asked Michelle to marry him!  She was so happy! And those blues in the background of these shots just can’t be beat!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

After she said “YES!”, we took some shots at this location.  Sometimes this location can get a little windy. So, one thing we LOVED about this proposal was that Keenan opted to tack on a mini-session to their proposal.  We went to a gorgeous white sand beach with views that go on forever! The variety in images we got were incredible!

Calin really wanted to have a more of an experience proposal, but he didn’t want a full session. The simple package was perfect for him.  We had set up a small sweet South Maui picnic proposal for him and his love, Bori.

THE PLAN:

We had a pretty, round blanket, some goblets, and a bottle of sparkling cider along with a message in a bottle waiting for her.
Calin had sent us a letter for Bori before they arrived to Maui for us to plant in the bottle!  I love the personal touch of a love letter during a proposal.  Our associate photographer Chantelle was hiding in wait for the happy couple to arrive!

THE PROPOSAL:

When they approached the blanket, she knelt down to pick up the bottle and started reading the letter in it.  Calin had some leis that he had brought with him and he placed the lei over her head.  After that, he knelt down on one knee and asked her to marry him! She said a big YES! We love the reaction on this one.  Bori is actually expecting, and Calin gave her a sweet belly hug after the proposal was done.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We spent some time photographing them snuggling together and drinking their sparkling cider on the unique blanket.  And we got some fun shots of these two playing on the beach together.  We love this beach on South Maui because it tends to be rather empty, and we just love the sunset at this beach.

During my correspondence with Ryan, he said to me that he “would love to really surprise her with something she doesn’t see coming. Given that Maui is such a romantic place, I’m worried she may see it coming.” Judging by her incredible reaction, she didn’t see the proposal coming during this romantic beach walk proposal!   

THE PLAN:

For this proposal we actually had to do a last minute location change.  I was headed down to our original location, and because of high winds they actually had to close the beach down.  The DNLR was there and wasn’t letting anyone through.  Luckily, Ryan is a guy who rolls with the punches and we were able to do a last minute location swap.  I gave him on-the-go directions to our new spot, still in South Maui.  It ended up working out really well.  

THE PROPOSAL:

It was an overcast day, so it got dark really fast.  We were able to utilize those last moments of light in the sky when he was proposing.  Tiffanee’s reaction was everything a photographer could ever hope for!  Tears, emotion, joy, and all that good stuff.  

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We were able to stay on the beach for our whole thirty minute session and got many beautiful shots.  At the end of the day everything worked out!  And this is why you hire someone who specializes in proposals so they can make quick decisions if you have to do a last minute location change!

Beach Proposal in Maalaea

Jimmy wanted to propose somewhere between their hotel in South Maui and where they were going to have dinner, the Lahaina Grill (one of my very favorite spots for food), in West Maui.  We did a little location scouting and found this great place in between both locations that had wide-open beaches, great views of the West Maui Mountains, and some cool palm trees as well. Thus began our beach proposal in Maalaea.

The Plan:

We planned on doing a message in a bottle for this beautiful proposal. Jimmy wrote a really lovely letter to Ariel for their four year anniversary, and we tucked it in a bottle. And just like that, the stage was set!

The Proposal:

We spotted them walking down the beach, and they came to the bottle. Ariel picked it up with some prompting from Jimmy, and she unrolled the letter. When she was done reading the letter, Jimmy got down on one knee and pulled the Ring Stash box out of his pocket and asked her to marry him.  She said a joyful YES! (Ring Stash is a really slim box that you can hide your ring in.  It was great because it wasn’t a big bulky ring box in his pocket that could have clued Ariel in that this was going to be the big moment!)

The Engagement Session:

After some hugging and kissing, Jimmy pointed us out, the secret proposal photographers hiding in the bushes.  Ariel, of course, was super surprised.  I always love this photo when the girl learns that her FIANCE has gone all out for their engagement.  We took a few photos at the proposal beach.  Then, we moved on to another location that was closer to the Lahaina Grill to get some more varied shots. What we really loved about this beach was the incredible driftwood and the golden light. There was a spectacular afterglow that evening with beautiful colors in the sky.  Ariel’s gorgeous eyes just sparkled through the whole session. What a gorgeous bride-to-be!  Jimmy and Ariel were such a great couple to photograph!

Maui Stand Up Paddle Board Proposal

This unique Maui stand up paddle board proposal was such a fun way to start the day!  When I initially spoke with Noah about the proposal, he had an awesome idea!  He wanted to do a morning paddle on their No Snow inflatable paddle boards they were bringing to Maui.  He thought they could paddle on to a beach and then he would propose there.  Now, my team and I could definitely get beautiful photos of them pulling up onto the beach and proposing! But after talking with Noah, we felt doing an engagement session in the water would be so true to them and their story. I knew I needed help for this one, so I called up my friend Matias from NV Maui Media who is a master at everything underwater.  Matias was really excited to work with us on this proposal.

The Plan:

The plan was for Noah and Jennifer to hop on their paddle boards in the early morning from a beach park fronting a hotel in south Maui.  When they left, they would paddle about twenty minutes down the coast. We chose a beach with two key components. First, it had easy entry. Second, it had GORGEOUS water for them to have an underwater engagement session.

The Proposal:

Rarely does a proposal go exactly according to plan.  However, I think it creates an even sweeter proposal story!  When they came up onto the shore, there was a little confusion at first.  We had placed a picnic basket at the proposal site as a “marker” where he would pop the question.  Noah couldn’t find it right away, but eventually, he came upon it. Matias was snapping away the whole time, and Jennifer was none the wiser.  When Noah found the basket, Charles Nahale, one of our favorite ukulele players on the island, came down to them and started playing their song, Thomas Rhett’s “Die a Happy Man.” Jennifer, of course, was very confused. When Noah felt that it was the right moment, he dropped to one knee. BUT he couldn’t get the ring out of his pocket!  This became a super sweet moment because Jennifer knelt down next to him and helped him get the ring out of his pocket.  Then, Noah continued with the proposal after Jennifer stood back up. She said yes!

The Engagement Session:

At that point, Noah pointed out photographer Matias hiding in the bushes.  Also, one more surprise was Noah had conspired with Jennifer’s parents and his mom to surprise them after the proposal.  That was really cool!  We love when friends and family get involved!  There were a whole lot of tears and joy as Jennifer greeted her friends and family.  We then did the half-submerged engagement session.  They were in the water with the stand-up paddle board and some really lovely shots of them loving on each other in the ocean on Maui.

Coming all the way to Maui from Ontario, Canada, this couple was full of love and connection on the day of their proposal.  When Adrian contacted us, he said he wanted a simple and picturesque proposal.  This wide open beach South Maui proposal was both simple and picturesque.  The perfect proposal for his high school sweetheart, Danielle.

THE PLAN:

When choosing the right beach for this couple’s proposal, we showed Adrian a couple options.  He loved the variety this South Maui beach offered.  We have these pretty naupaka plants that creep out onto the beach to prevent erosion which adds some cool greenery there.  One thing I really love about this location is how when the wind whips across the sand, you get these incredible patterns which adds another dimension to the photos.

THE PROPOSAL:

They arrived to this wide open beach in South Maui and walked hand in hand until Adrian found just the right spot to propose. As soon as he was ready, he spun Danielle to face him, knelt down, grabbed both her hands, and asked her to marry him.  She was overwhelmed by the moment but remembered to say a big YES before he slipped the ring on her finger.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We stayed at this South Maui location for a little bit for their first sweetheart shots.  Then we went to another little gem just down the way.  The second beach is one of our favorite little hidden beaches of the south shore.  We got some great shots of these two there.  While the sunset wasn’t incredibly vibrant that night, we still got some beautiful, glowy colors.  These two had incredible chemistry and it showed through each photo.

Oliver and Maricella aren’t your typical love at first sight love story.  They are a love at second sight love story.  They met and hit it off at a party years before they got together.  But life got in the way, and they went their separate directions.  Years later, they bumped into each other in their local Emergency Room; Oliver as a Lieutenant with Miami Fire and Rescue and Maricella an ER doctor.  From that moment, he knew he wasn’t going to let her get away again.  When he was ready to propose, Engaged on Maui planned the hidden South Maui beach proposal for them.

THE PLAN:

Oliver and I went back and forth on location for quite a bit of time before he chose this really cool pocket beach on South Maui.  This beach is not always accessible because of the swells we get in, but we made sure to do a location scout the week of the proposal to make sure there was enough sand on the beach.  Maricella and Oliver took their sweet time getting out to this proposal spot because Maricella was using her selfie-stick a lot on the way out!  Which Oliver apologized profusely for later.  But we thought it was hilarious.  She got lots of her own “behind the scenes” photos before he popped the question.

THE PROPOSAL:

Oliver had a message in a bottle placed on the beach for them to happen upon once they got to the proposal site.  Coming up to that message in a bottle really threw Maricella off and she was so surprised when Oliver dropped to one knee while she was opening up the letter!  When he asked her to marry him, she was overcome with joy!

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

We stayed in South Maui for the duration for our session.  There was a spectacular sunset that night.  This couple had such beautiful chemistry together, we got some incredible sweetheart shots of the newly engaged couple.

Dave and Rianna had a gorgeous wide open beach proposal in West Maui.  These two met a year and a half ago through mutual friends and they’ve been inseparable ever since.  When Dave found out his company was sending him to Maui on a business trip, he knew it was the perfect time to ask Rianna to marry him!

THE PLAN:

Dave’s sister helped with the sneaky part of “how will he get her to go to this beach?”  The sister told Rianna that she and her boyfriend went to this incredible beach (the proposal beach) the day before and Rianna had to see it.  And the plan was set. Before arriving, Dave sent us a really nice photo album that he had made himself.  We planted it on the beach just before they arrived.  We were a little bit concerned about the weather that day, but we were watching the radar.

THE PROPOSAL:

This was a lucky day for us!  The sprinkles kind of scared everyone else off, so they pretty much had the beach all to themselves for the proposal.  When the proposal itself happened there was absolutely no one around.  One thing I loved about this proposal was that they were both down on their knees when he popped the question!  It really made for some cool, different images for their proposal.

THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION:

During the engagement session, we stayed at that beach where we did get some sprinkles, but that did not dissuade them from hugging and loving on each other.  After a bit of time spent at that beach, we went over to another beach in Northwest Maui.
Typically, this beach has a lot of people, but it was wide open for them this day!  We got some incredible shots at this beach!
